Message 21109 - Posted: 2 May 2009, 17:22:45 UTC - in response to Message 21105.

Step 10. You chew off someones head one day since you were up until 3 am the night before figuring out why the results when using multidimensional streams are so screwed up until you realize that the gpu multi-dimensional arrays don't necessarily use J[x][y] but rather J[y][x] which really starts to matter when x and y are not equal.

Thought I've told you that about the strange ordering. And it was 4:23 p.m. here in Germany when I sent the PM ;)
But it is actually C style indexing, only stream declarations switch the dimensions.

At least I know now, what happened to that project ;)

Step 16. DA shuts it down.

I think that is a bit unfair. He generally gets a bad press in Boinc which is not deserved. OK, he could be better at the PR thing, but scientists are what they are.

Plus, you can't afford to purchase an nVidia card since you spent all your money to buy kleenex to wipe off your brown nose.

Some of us with more personal experiences with DA think he gets off far more lightly than deserved.

Being an engineer, not that far removed from science vacuousness I am somewhat sympathetic, but not that much ... if he can't lead he should follow and if he can't do that he should get out of the way ...

Great one Slicker!

And to back Paul up, I don't just think it's DA that gets off lightly...

The old Fortran vs 'every other language ever invented' way of array indexing.
Its caught out millions of programmers over the years...

And concerning the missing bit of my sig - BoincStats has been down for most of the day.
Cheers,

Well Paul, for those not in the know, you could always regalia us with your BOINC wiki story.

Regalia is what one wears, and I don't wear the Wiki ... :)

And it is more than the WIki story. Though that is an important chapter.

Actually, they don't need me, or anyone else to tell stories. All they have to do is to look around. And ask simple questions. Like why are we still struggling with issues that are 5 years old (or older, some go back to the Beta)? Why do we keep getting buggy releases of the BOINC software?

Simple questions. No answers.

Lastly, I have a very biased view of the Wiki story as one of the primary actors in the drama. Why should my version be the one told?

But I will pose a couple questions for the student. Why do we have 3 Wikis and numerous FAQs when one would be enough in most situations? Why aren't the Wiki's content updated and expanded on a regular basis? And lastly, who is afraid of Virginia Woolfe?

Actually, simple answers too... Someone is more concerned with Social Networking, making the web buttons look "pretty" and other web page "upgrades", not to mention the Credit Crusade...

You did tell me and after I went back and re-read your message, it became obvious what the problem was. ;) You assistance helped a lot.

I haven't given up on the yet un-named project. I have versions for cpu, cuda, and ati generating correct results, but none are optimized very well and I haven't started on the server daemons yet either, so it will be a while.

OK I should have said regale us. Anyway your version is by far the most entertaining one.

Worst part today is I installed the Windows-7 RC and got everything reinstalled.

I only forgot one item during the move, the 3 AMDcal .dll files, I got 3 work units and they immediately errored out because of the forgotten files.

Now I have to wait and see if I get any more work today.

Did it work for you?

I am having issues with Windows 7 RC and Catalyst 9.5 and wondered if yours was okay.

Working just fine, after I copied and renamed the .dll files in the Windows32 folder.

I've done it about 4 times and gone back to Vista 64 with 9.4 and now I cannot get that working either.

This is sooooo annoying, my Vista stopped booting and hanging so I end up spending days thanks go out to M$.

Message 24164 - Posted: 4 Jun 2009, 18:42:10 UTC

Today I signed up to the MilkyWay_GPU Project.

I entered the Project URL as suggested,
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_gpu/

Although already registered with the MilkyWay project I had to re-register - I would have preferred not to do this. I would have liked the project to respect existing users in the same way other projects do.

After re-registering, Im taken to the find a team page, with the following errors,

Notice: Undefined variable: params in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/user/team_search.php on line 167
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 35

I choose the, not interested in joining a team option!

No tasks were forthcoming so I Checked Boinc Messages:

It would help to read the news before bashing the project.
