Thank you Dave for bringing the voice of reason (and authority) to a situation that has been getting far out of hand recently (I can't speak for historically as I have not followed the forum here or elsewhere until the last few months).

Following upon the post of my fellow Calm Chaos-ian (Debs), thank you Dave for indicating that permanent bans are a possibility. I like that kind of honesty. If you had the time, I'd suggest you check out other BOINC forums to see who the trouble-makers are, since they like to spread it out across BOINCdom. But, I'm sure you're way too busy. I shall take my leave again, for I too am busy and I'm sure someone wants to come along and point a finger right at me.

Nice one Dave. A project forum, as I see it, is to discuss, in a sensible and positive way, the aspects and issues of the project, not to resort to swearing at each other over who's got more creds....

OK, problems are there to be solved; but what's the point of calling names....discussion, pure and simple civil discussion is the way to work around problems - and there's always space for light-heartedness.

It helps but doesn't stop them, they just sign up with a different account each time, I seen a suspicious one this morning I was wondering about but now Dave's & your post makes sense of the new account somebody made today ... :)

I think we need some kind of Security, as in no posting, no profile, until an RAC of at 10 is achieved. A number of other projects use this approach. I think maybe we should consider using some form of Security to stop people like "Permaban" from flaming."Permaban" no rac, no credits, no computer, no profile = no forum priviledges!

I agree with this. It is also an anti-spam measure, not just security against flamers, so would kill 2 birds with one stone.

Of course, it would be necessary for mods with a RAC of 0 to be able to post :)
