I only mentioned it here because of today's word's Old Norse provenance.
English has borrowed from many languages...

I was just joking...

Meantime, I've found mention of Norway in a US economics blog that spends most of its time complaining, justifiably, about the US government's incompetence.

So nice to see some governments at least make some pretence of doing some things for the greater good of the people, rather than for the greater good of poor starving billionaires.
Cheers,

;-)
Yes, its true.. Instead of spending, Norway has been saving money.
As a country we have no dept, but a big fond containing about
2.000.000.000.000. Nok. (as far as i remember - dont trust me enirely here)

But - If the government hadnt changed the law some years ago, about using
up to 60%, instead of max. 40% of the found in the stock maked, but kept more in
obligations, it would have been on 3.000.000.000.000. ;p by now.
This is caused to the international economical crack. Also, if you add up all
dept held by private persons and companies in Norway, there is a dept on almost
the same as the found. And to say that the international crack Not has affected
Norway, is to be blinded by the sight of an almost fictive ammount hold by the government.

Of course the international marked affects the marked in Norway,
and by that the companies, and in end the workers. We loose our jobs here as
eslewhere. When the demand for products goes down, the production has to go
the same way... and what does that end up in??? Maybe Norway as a country is
not affected as much as many other contries - as it can be seen in the moment -
but many people living here is into big problems. When losing their jobs, it
doesnt help that Norway as a country has some money hided away.

The only way that money can help somehow is of course if the government at every point
can use some of it to stabilize the marked as much as possible -
but by being a part of the rest of the world, its a limit of how much its
possible do - What helps most people the most right now is the sosial laws
about payment for those with no work.. Normally you get up to 60% of your income,
up to a surtain limit.. then it stop at the same ammount what ever
you may have earned. This keep us alive for a while.. but most people can
have a hard time manage on this for a longer term - as is of course done by
purpose (so noone shall fall asleep being in that situation). So... I dont
know how this will go.. but of course, the most optimistic analytic prognozes
says it will go better in not too long.... but we have heard them before,
and none of them saw this "crack" coming - or didnt care... As to tell the
people about it in advance, would be to start a war - wouldnt it..? ;-)
I dont like economics -
I have kept my own though, and managed so far.. but the future I dont know about.
Again its just to do as good as possible, try to not give up,
and hope for the best.. ;-)

Norway in Euro final, but some of you will already know this [Oz telecast is 10 or more hours behind].
i wouldn't have voted for him. my vote would be for Ireland, who didn't get in.

and getting back to your photo a couple of posts back... tomorrow will you be inside watching eurovision or outside waving the flag?
Cheers,

is tonight - the 16.th - its still only 15.14 pm here. Tomorrow is the 17th with flags ;-)

ohh. btw.. Norway is in Europe.. but not in EU - Still two different things ;-)
Also Switzerland is out of EU, and other east-european countries.. Still - They want In! lol. Also Russia is in the eurovision music contest - mmmhh... ;-)

I still preferred Ireland.

Congradulations anyway. It gives you something else to celebrate on your national day.

... but then its not even true Eurovision.

This is true Eurovision.
And not the wimpy stage act that won it for Finland, this is the proper video clip in the school gymnasium with the zombie cheerleaders.
The world needs more zombie cheerleaders...
Cheers,

I never heard Irelands song. And I dont know why it
wasnt there. Was it because of low ranking last year?
As I have understood it, there are too many nations who
wants to partisipate. So to be able to hold the numbers
down, the counties with lowest points each year goes out
the next, and let in again those countires that fell out the year
before. So why was not Ireland in the international final this
year, and if they shoul not be there, why take it in as an
option? I dont follow it much anyway. I normally see the
Norwegian final, and then the international final. But all the
talk about it in advance, i have not much interest about. ;-)
Its mostly gossip and guesses.

Anyway.. Norway won this year - its the third time, and next
year its 50 years since we participated the first time. Nice
anniversary. On own ground. ;-) I wonder if it will be held in
the new opera in Oslo.. or what.. hmm.. Not that it counts for me where,
as I will still follow it on tv. ;-)

>Ireland
They had two semi-final shows this year [maybe in the past as well but we didn't get to see them here] and ten countries were disqualified at each, to leave only 20 [I think] for the final. Ireland didn't get through the second of the semifinals.

And having heard this year's Finnish entry all I can say is 'bring back LORDI!'.

I would also like to have Terry Wogan [english commentator] back, but I suppose that's as likely as Lordi.

>I will still follow it on tv.
They'll shoot you as a traitor for not making the pilgrimage to Oslo, paying thousands of NOK for a ticket, etc... :)
Off to bed. cya.

;-) Until this morning I thought the finnish melody was another one - but
I now know it was the one getting lowest credit. So now I know that i dont
remember at all how the finish sounds like. See how confused I am? ;-))

Aye, I guess when first desided to quit, its not easy to change him.

Probably. Meaning - after that event in May next year, there will be no more
Coconut. The victory would be the end - huh! :p ;-)

I hope not though - i dont feel im finished yet. ;-)
