Hi. My systems seem to never get more than one new task at a time from wu requests. (the "Sent" columns in the hosts' task pages have only unequal times)

I think this problem started suddenly a few days ago, and without any changes done by myself.

All those machines are using 0.19e with RV770 gpus. I have tried BOINC client versions 6.4.5, 6.6.20, and 6.6.23. Also been fiddling with the work request lenghts from computing preferences, but nothing seems to help.

Doesn't seem like other users are suffering from this. Any ideas what could be causing it?

The way things are now with a shortage of work, I think it is random. You turn up and ask for work; got get none, one, some, or a bucketful. It's all in the stars really.

I'm pretty sure there is more to this. I've been watching these machines for days now, and they just never get more than one wu. My daily production is down to about 10k total now with five 4800 series gpus.

Is your work preferences too long? If your 'connect every' is set too long it will only get one task anyways.

Looks like host ID 51515 had local overriding preferences of connecting every 10 days and keeping additional work buffer of 0 days. Weird that I can't remember setting those...

I swapped the numbers around and the problem seems to be fixed now. Probably my other systems suffer from the same thing.

Thanks banditwolf!

One thing I have noticed is that sometimes my PC will ask for work, get none, and then go into backoff. However, when I check the PC in my computers list in my MW account, it shows that it hasn't connected in a few hours. One shows a last contact at 15:19 UTC, but it did do a work request since then. Maybe there is a backoff on the server side that we don't know about, since the upgrade of the server software...

I have seen that as well, it is just plain weird.

I suspect the reason for that is if the scheduler doesn't have any work to send at the moment, it gives the host the Buzz Off message and doen't bother to log a connection attempt in the database.

The only time I have seen it update the Last Connection Time lately is when I actually get some work from the project or have something to report.

FWIW, this is not standard BOINC behaviour, but isn't really any kind of issue per se. Just kind of annoying. ;-)

Thanks, Alinator...it seems like the times that are recorded as the last contact coincide with a Message from server: (Project has no jobs available) line in the messages tab, whereas all other attempts are normal black text...

For the last week (or so) Boinc doesn't update Mw's credits & rac untill I get new work. Doesn't bother me really, just seems odd, maybe something was chaged in the server.

Hmmm...

Interesting.

Maybe those are requests where the CC is looking to fetch the Master Scheduler file.

I'll track it closer on mine for a while and see if I can confirm that.

Also, as Banditwolf alluded to, we should keep in mind that Travis and Dave have pretty heavily modded the standard BOINC backend package to meet the somewhat unique requirements of MW compared to most other projects.

So we shouldn't get too worked up when we see minor deviations from what you would typically see on SAH, EAH, and the other 'mature' projects for example (when they're not running like the Tin Woodsman after a rainstorm, that is). ;-)

I occasionally see a message saying fetching Master Scheduler file.
It then asks for the usual 400,000secs of work.
Rarely gets any though.
I'm not worked up... :)
Cheers,

Having all sorts of problems getting work today (CPU). No work for the last 3 hours, even though "Server Status" says otherwise. I therefore thought I'd try a little experiment, y'know, as one does after 3 hours of button hitting!!
I detached from the project - usually works with other projects. The darn server wouldn't even give me the necessary 1 second of work to begin the project D/L. After fiddling around with a few preferences for about an hour, just to give the server something to do, seeing that all the work that is apparently available gets hoovered up by certain individuals, or the scheduler's not working, or whatever, the great and glorious server gave me my 1 second of work, then grudgingly gave me 2 work units on my quad, which have now finished. My comp is hence idle once more. I guess I'll do some Primegrid or something, until some work arrives - bit of a pain though....

That's the beauty of BOINC. Can't get work on your fav project? Then attach to another half decent project and give it a low resource share.
