Message 20265 - Posted: 24 Apr 2009, 1:13:07 UTC

I asked in the GPU thread, but there were only hints on the AGP card. I can't get MW WUs to execute without errors. I receive an error message on the WUs the machine tried to crunch, but the message output file xxxx.... for task xxxx... absent. I have the Cat 9.4 hotfix for AGP cards & have added the 3 renamed files to the WINDOWS SYSTEM32 folder. Anyone have any experience getting the HD3850 AGP card to work properly?

BTW, the system is SSE, SSE2, SSE3 capable. Help!!!

I'm running an AGP 3850 in my P4 WinXP pro box.
I'm using the 8.12 version without any problems.

OS is XP SP3 32 bit & .net 3.5. When I try to load 8.12, I get an error that says the driver for my hardware/system isn't supported. That's why I loaded the 9.4 hotfix for the AGP card. I envy you John R having your 3850 AGP card using 8.12. Hope someone can guide me in the right (correct) direction. Thanks.

Yeah, I have a Sapphire HD3850 512MB GDDR3 AGP card. Using the 8.12 Cats. Only ran it for a couple of test runs with 0.19e. Mainly use my card for Oblivion, Crysis, Crysis Warhead & all the various Command & Conquer games.

Never had problems installing the drivers, never had to use the Sapphire Hotfix either.

Cat 9.3 and 9.4 don't run under WinXP (at least not GPGPU applications). There is a bug in the driver (CAL interface) supposedly fixed in the 9.4 release, but it is still not working.
You can download the AGP hotfix for the Cat 8.12 XP32 version here.

I imagine that you have already tried this...........
When I first installed my card, I put version 9.1 in because that is what came with the card.
Nothing but errors like you have experienced.

I then uninstalled everything, and I do mean everything that had ATI in the name.

I then installed 8.12 and have been running error free ever since.

Maybe I was just lucky.......heh, that would be the first time....

Thanks for the 8.12 hotfix CP, but after I uninstalled the 9.4 hotfix, deleted everything that had ATI in the folder name and installed the 8.12 hotfix, I still get these errors:

I did what John R states, but I got my ATI Catalyst 8.12 drivers from here for Win XPPro 32 bit.

I run the 0.19e client and have had no errors or other problems. The only downer was the usual GPU one of not getting sufficient work to keep the HD3850 AGP occupied all the time.
Go away, I was asleep

Thanks John, but the 8.12 drivers from the ATI/AMD site won't install on my HD3850 AGP card. I found out about the AGP hotfix by reading on that site, but they only had Cat 9.3 & 9.4. CP gave me the link to the Cat 8.12 hotfix and I installed it after I uninstalled the 9.4 hotfix & cleaned up all of my folders. Just wish I could dechiper the "output file absent" message. I didn't have these issues with the PCIe cards. Oh well, guess that's what I get for trying to revive an old mobo. Thanks.

Just a question...
Do you have more than 1 profile on your computer?

Have you restarted your computer and Boinc?

I'm thinking you may be missing a 'fix' in the ati code, or a file is missing. I remember others have had similar readings. Try searching (using the search feature) the boards.

Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Martin, I don't know what you mean by more than 1 profile. I recently swapped mobo's & CPU from a Soyo KT400 with a XP 3000+ chip (it was only SSE capable) to a Gigbyte 754 socket with an Athlon 64 3400 chip (SSE, SSE2, & SSE3 capable). Strange thing happened when I booted up the new board; it couldn't find my OS! I reinstalled Windows and low and behold, it booted up, but now it has 2 operating systems to select from when restarting, but only 1 Windows system 32 folder. Is this what you were indicating? Thanks.

Banditwolf - Yes I've done both; several times. I had a fresh install of Windows so I had to download BOINC again (6.6.20). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the ATI hotfix drivers several times, but I contine to get the error message of the output file absent. I guess I'll keep researching the issue. Thanks.

You're using the opti app right? Read the file that cluster has with it (if you haven't). It calls for some files to be renamed.

I believe that's for Cat 9.3 & 9.4 drivers. According to CP, these won't work on XP so he gave me a link to the Cat 8.12 hotfix. That's what I currently have installed. Yes, I'm using 0.19e for SSE2. Thanks.

@ Donnie.

Heya Donnie.
What I mean is more than one user in this computer.
For example I have my profile on mine "martin" and my wife's (twyla)
she logs off then switch to her side.
I say that because the error that you copied/pasted is the exact same one I get from S@H and GPUGRID if I am crunching on "my side" and then my wife "switch user" and go to her side to check her e-mail and so on..
I had the most enormous errored out WU from GPUGRID and never made the connection until I saw my wife switching user on the computer.
I immediately went back to "my side" to find out that another WU errored out with the same msg you have been getting.
As far as the dual OS that you now seems to have this could potentially "disturb" Xp in its functionality. If I remember you can fix that by right clicking on "my computer" then click on "properties" then on "hardware tab" then at bottom click on "hardware profiles" You might see 2 profiles (OS) there. You can delete the one you don't want making sure you keep the "current" one active.

But this could or could not work. I had a similar problems years ago and ultimately I just reformated.

@ Martin

I only have 1 profile on all machines. My wife uses the lappy when she wants to surf. Thanks for the heads up on the possibility of deleting 1 of the OSs. I really don't want to reformat and start again, but I've done it ssooooo many times because of a case of user dumbas*, it probably wouldn't be a big deal since I don't have much on the machine at the present. Thanks.

I had this problem with my HD3850 AGP card, I solved it by googling for the catalyst 8.12 AGP hotfix, and I haven't had a problem with the drivers since (besides the whole getting enough work thing).

Just remember to uninstall any previously installed catalyst drivers.
