This is a Joshua tree in the Lancaster, California area.
These trees grow native only to the Mojave Desert area and they are protected by California law. For every one you remove you have to plant 5. One of the reasons they are protected is if you decide to move one to a different location you have to plant it in exactly the same position that it was in in the original location otherwise it will die.

A couple of pics from work. The main tree-lined avenue, its that time of year:




Big vacuum cleaner behind tractor - going... going...


gone. I just happened to be working on the first floor of the building beside the avenue which allowed me to take the side-on pics.


But there are still plenty of leaves left, some trees on the far left haven't even started turning brown yet, so the vacuum cleaner will have to come back in a couple of weeks. The brown bank at the far end is really a fountain whichh is turned off due to water restrictions [drought, its Australia].

The most important thing about photography is to take the shots the appeal to you. If you are happy with them, then others may find them good as well.

I posted these in Seti when I was in Bergen.. But i was such
a short time on comp each time, so first now I come in thought
i should have posted them here also ;-)


Here`s a photo of my grandfathers house in Bergen.
Our family still owns it - and a photo
of the view from the kitchen window ;-)

Its just that i dont know what i should post.. as there is too many to
post at once..
but ok.. first two more photos of the view from kitchen windows in my
grandfathers house. Then one pic taken from the small balcony outside
livingroom in 2nd floor. Then photo of that special door I mentioned..
Ive also posted them in coconut-thread in Seti..as
promised :p .. hmmm.. ;-)

What are the roof tiles made of?

Norwegian Skifer. That is very common on buildings here.. at
least the older ones. That was what they used before all this
"new-modern" congrete tiles came on the marked.. That is of
course cheaper, so most new houses has that on the roof.. so
has mine. Well.. when I think of it.. people put so much strange
up on the roof nowadays..that is even cheaper than the concrete
tiles.. ;-))

but a roof should at least look nice and Stay
there - also during the storms.. On my house each and every
tile is fastened - as i claimed it to be. Normally they fasten
only some of them.. up to each 3rd. But thats just not good
enough where it can blow a lot. And until this day - 12 years
after, there has not been ruined One single tile. Happy me. ;-D

A quick google didn't enlighten me. I'm guessing they are wooden shingles.
I have concrete tiles. But here the wind doesn't blow so much and no snow so my roof looks like /\ but only at 22º angle. I think only one row of tiles is fastened, another result of not so much wind.

No, its a natural rock.

There are several "types" in Norway, a bit different from where its found.
But mostly it looks like this..


This is mainly whats used as roof tiles.. and of course ticker plates on
patios and so.. I have it outside my house also.. in add to wooden
on some areas. (but not on the roof, as you can see ;-)



There are also a sort of "Skifer" that is much darker, almost black.. or
at least coal coloured. I have that on floor in my hall.. maybe i can find
or take a photo of it later..

Rock roofs never really took off in Australia, quite probably due to a lack of the right kind of rock. Oz is much more of a sandstone kind of place.
