Dear Admins and Moderators: It takes so little time to dash off a message... We care about your project enough to invest our time and our computers' time in it. We want a say in what happens and will cheerfully debate the tiniest matter to death and sometimes, well beyond. However, in the end, most of us will accede to whatever you determine is best for the project, as long as it's basically fair. A few will leave, but that's life. A major part of your end of the bargain is to keep us informed! We don't have much sympathy for the people in charge leaving us in the dark. It causes volunteers to vote with their feet. The more you communicate, the more trust and cooperation you'll get from us. Simple as that. You have a place for News on the front page. You could make a sticky thread in this forum that only you can write to, called Status. All manner of communications are open to you. Pick one and use it on a regular basis and we'll be much happier contributing the horsepower. A great place to start would be "What's happening right now?" |

I've been trying to keep the news updated (somewhat more briefly than what's in here) whenever something new happens. Other more minor details i'm keeping here in the forums :) |

Other more minor details i'm keeping here in the forums :) Dear Travis, I DO NOT second the original proposal of this thread! You do a magnificent job of keeping us informed about what's going on (e.g. server crash, electricity blackout, etc.). You do this in a much more detailled way than in most other BOINC projects. Plus you DO listen to the suggestions that are made in this forum (e.h. credits, cheating, etc.) Thank you very much for this effort and keep this information policy! |

I do think the info is comming more now than it was in the past weeks. And It does seem that you are working at trying to resolve a lot of issues at once. So Good Job! |

I've been trying to keep the news updated (somewhat more briefly than what's in here) whenever something new happens. Other more minor details i'm keeping here in the forums :) I feel like this project does a good job of keeping information flowing, also. Especially like last night when they were trying to update the binaries but ran into other problems. They posted several messages on the front page explaining what was happening. Keep up the good work. |

12 whole hours, huh? Must have been a killer to sit in front of the computer watching the seconds tick away while not know what was happening with MilkyWay. I wonder how people survive for days, weeks, or even months between informational posts by the admins on other projects. |

I don't believe that Martin was apologizing to you. He was saying that several members on this board owe Travis an apology. Those of you who have busted on Travis for not giving out information, when in reality he HAS done a very good job of keeping us informed need to apologize to Travis. |

What a dull world it would be, if we all thought the same way. We are here, closely watching a new project to catch any glitches that happen so that we may report them and thereby make the world a better place. This is totally unlike an established project with a long, predictable record. We do NOT know what to expect here, except that stuff will happen. So stuff goes wrong. We report it. We wait. And we wait. And we get nervous, thinking that maybe nobody on the other end is listening. Now, if Travis is the only person working on this project and he can only pay attention to it every other day, between midnight and two, then he should say so. Properly adjust people's expectations and you avoid misunderstandings. So far, on this project, we have little to go on. It crashed last week (don't ask me to remember times and dates, it crashed) and we heard nothing until Monday. Then we didn't get notified; stuff just started working. Then it went down again. And again, no notices until I started this thread. I don't feel that I have insulted anyone. If I did, I apologize, but someone may need to grow some thicker skin. Admining a project like this is no place for weak sisters. Travis has done a fair job, but could do better, in my humble opinion. I have been on his side of the fence and I know how a very little effort to keep people up to speed goes a really long way! Looking on the main board right now, I see 5 (five) messages, all dated the same day --- Great job!!! |

What a dull world it would be, if we all thought the same way. I think you are a little misinformed regarding this project. It's still in Alpha and as such we can expect lots of issues and expecting to be informed of every little detail is asking a bit much but in saying that, if you had taken the time to read the news on the homepage you'd have noticed that it's been updated several times over the last few days and considering it was a holiday weekend the information we received was far more than could have been expected, not to mention the posts Travis answered to as noted in a previous post. |

I've been trying to keep the news updated (somewhat more briefly than what's in here) whenever something new happens. Other more minor details i'm keeping here in the forums :) No thanks. I have no problem with the info we are NOW getting, and i have thanked TRAVIS in another thread. Paratima's first post was valid. It worked, we now have info posted on the front page For all those who want to look big by flaming the first three posters, you took your time to turn up here and see what was happening. Yes by that time we did have info on the front page. So it was pointless to then post and say the info was there. It was because TRAVIS reacted to this thread and told us what was happening. So this thread worked, and got us the info about what was happening. |

personally, i feel honored to be an admin on a forum that already has some flaming going on :) but all joking aside, if you guys have any questions, thats what these message boards are for. just post them and i'll do my best to answer as fast as possible. keep in mind that i am in grad school so my schedule is beyond weird -- so if you're thinking 'travis couldn't possibly be sleeping right now' there's a good chance you're wrong, even if it's 5pm EST :P if you think some info thats posted here should go on the news, just suggest it and i'll put it there. we're really grateful for you guys putting in the time and effort of offering up your computers while we're still alpha testing, so we'd like to make this as informative and pleasant for you as possible. |
