It means a lot of scripters were refreshing more than once in a minute...

It sure does.

Hey, Travis!!

Did you just do a server Reset? I saw that everything apart for the web site went down for a few minutes. I also see that all the work that's come my way this afternoon was all sgr stuff. I also noticed that after the presumed reset, available WUs took a nose-dive!

Results ready to send 2

Any news?

Jim, this just happened:

6/4/2009 5:23:05 PM|Milkyway@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance
6/4/2009 5:24:15 PM|Milkyway@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance
6/4/2009 5:25:25 PM|Milkyway@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance

So I don't think that it's anything serious - it's back up. Don't forget that the server page is a snapshot in time, not a live feed.

John was fiddling around with the server learning some things and starting up some new searches. That's why it was down for awhile :)

You need to alter your update script to have an update period longer than 65 seconds.

Hey guys, just so you know these sorts of issues have been questioned and explained in the forum several times over - peer through some of the threads and find your answer :)

Maybe we need a FAQ... Any volunteers?

>my computer sat here idle all day without being able to download any work at all
... which is why you're attached to 2,3,... 20 projects, with the expectation that at least one of them will have work available. That way your computer won't be so idle.
Cheers,

Now that we've had a few days for the server changes to settle down, let's take a look at the stats to see what effect, if any, the changes have actually had...

Total average daily production for the MW project:

5/13 thru 5/31: 13,896,075 credits
6/2 thru 6/8: 12,380,912 credits

6/1 was not included since that was the day the server setting was changed.

In other words, the new server settings have resulted in an 11% average drop in credits per day. Less credit = less WUs completed = less science done. Right? I'm guessing that wasn't part of the desired effect.

Yes but John's new searches (and errors) have confused this figure.

looking at the graphs, you do see a clear slow down.

Looking at my graphs, I see a clear speed up since the change.

And, by the way, I'm running no update script.

Until we see a global effect we have to wait, just a little bit longer. I think in a week or two we can judge the global effect of the change, but not now.

Just my two cent
