The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Swine flu to be an official Pandemic. Hmmm... that was weeks ago wasnt it? Since it's been forgotten about. It doesn't have the rate to turn into an epidemic/pandemic. The news went ga-ga over it. Not even a mention about it now for weeks. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

It's all in the media. These deaths would have happened none the less had they had been the regular flu. It's probably safer to get Swine flu than it is to drive to the doctors office to get antibiotics and stuff. |

Just heard a mention on the news, so I guess it's popped up again (in the news that is). It's the same as any other flu really. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Yes! The pandemic declaration is based on the number of countries (73) it has now been confirmed in, and the total numbers of people getting it. ATM those getting Swine Flu seem to have milder symptoms than normal flu, and it has only affected the young and children (no over 65s). The medical authorities (WHO) seem to believe that come Autumn/The Fall there will be a second wave of swine flu and this may have mutated to a more nasty version (running in to the winter and next spring). This reminds me of all the panic a couple of years ago over the H5N1 Bird Flu. When it was posted about in SETI forums it was strictly believed. Several people posted that it was a load of old crud and the panic was groundless. The other posters, who liked the panic stricken state, went ape-sh** and posted that the higher religious powers would punish those that did not believe with a terrible death. Nothing happened. I am not drawing parallels here, but be sensible. Go away, I was asleep |

In Victoria, Australia we are heading into winter and we have over 1000 confirmed cases of H1N1 with no deaths. All cases have been mild. I just wish I would get it now instead of in spring when the virus has had the chance to mutate into a more virulent form. |

the virus has had the chance to mutate into a more virulent form. Yep - a new form of BSE or sommat... We're all gonna die, die, die |

the virus has had the chance to mutate into a more virulent form. I hope not. The Pandemic status declaration is there to alert the world so that they know the risk of sudden spread is there, and to alert the world to be prepared if sudden spread occurs at any time from now. |

the virus has had the chance to mutate into a more virulent form. Despite my best efforts I failed to catch swine flu. I tried. I really tried. |

But of the 140 or so deaths so far worldwide, about half have been in previously-healthy people. That is what prompted the World Health Organization to change its description of the virus from a mild to a moderate disease. |
