If i take control away from BOINC and babysit my PCs very intensely i can do about 180k credit per day. My actual RAC is about 130k, that means BOINC loses 30% and i still have to babysit. If i let BOINC manage things i hardly believe i could keep half of my RAC.
...they know better how BOINC should operate...
Yes, they know it should run half as fast and they do a great job >:D

You all seem to miss the priorities of DA regarding boinc development...

1. eye candy for the message board
2. social networking
3. add more bugs

9998. fix bugs and make boinc a usable tool.

You got THAT right, Crunch3r. Maybe "Self Glorification" should be up near the top of the list as well! ;^).

You should really set the avg_ncpus value higher. That way a lot less WUs are loaded and also the time-out issue is no longer present. If you loose one or two tasks is not much of an issue with a Core i7 because of the hyperthreading. And if you really want to avoid it use the cc_config.xml to raise the number of CPUs the BOINC client sees. If you set it to 9 and adjust your MW resource share to 11.1% (1/9) you can more or less reserve one of the 9 CPUs for MW and can afford a lot higher avg_ncpus values (you can even set it to 1.0). At least if you reset the debts it works quite well here.

But generally speaking the scheduler of the BOINC client is quite a mess in my opinion. The features of the newer clients (6.x.xx) like fractional CPU allocation are simply not working as they should.

Where is the cc_config.xml located. I'm running windows7, have change to Boinc 6.6.20 and catalyst to 9.5 from 9.6. It is running better but still tweaking.

It's not located anywhere until you create it. You then place it in the same directory as your Application Data.

Read this thread for more detail.

I have follying your posts re BOINC issues.
the i7s need good control.
I have been having the same issue of to many WUS going at the same time, up to 42 on my i7, with only 6 MW moving.
Previously had resource allocated 66% MW and 34% WCGrid
have now got 11% for MW and the rest to other apps.
overflow ploblems have reduced greatly . incoming WUs stay as "waiting to start" instead of running in space.
will leave running over night and see what happens.

Thanks for the link. That was one thread that I definitely had missed. It was just what I was looking for. Here is a list of some of my hardware and the changes I have made so far. My computer contains i7 core (920) processor, Windows 7 RC, 6 GB of memory, the graphics card is a PowerColor HD 4850 with 1GB of GDDR3 memory. When I installed the 0.19f ATI GPU app I was using Catalyst 9.6 and Boinc ver 6.6.36 but it was not very stable and scheduling was terrible. When MW would crash all I had to do was restart Boinc but to get my other projects to fetch work I would have to suspend projects the other project and reset the project to get work. I changed to Boinc ver 6.6.20 and Catalyst 9.5 and that seem to run better as long as I turned the screensaver off and the power saver option for the monitor. But when the screensaver was on and it crashed I got the blue screen and it restarted when I was using 9.6 MW crashed and boinc had to be restarted. When I change to 6.6.20 I should have run it with Catalyst 9.6 for a couple of days before changing to Catalyst 9.5 instead changing them together. I changed the app info cmd line several times it’s now <cmdline>n1 w1.1</cmdline> and today I change <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus> to 1 from .1 and added cc_config.xlm file and set the number of CPUs to 9. From what I have read on the message boards and the changes I have made, I think it is as stable as it is going to get for right now.

so far so good .
Yes I changed to Catalyst 9.5 on advice from others. am using a ATI 4870 x2
today will be the first day on the 12% MW and the rest to WCGID.
while I still getting some overflow at least I get plenty of WUs
approx 1200000 credits for the day and I have not had to touch the computer
will try the edit of the app info file if I have problems down the track.
also using BOINC 6.6.3

The best I have manage to get with 6.6.36 is download 2 or 3 days work buffer then disable the CPU project mfor more work and select manually 3 wus (but need to be long ones 7 to 50 hours) running and MW on 2 WUs for my quad.
Makes around 65000 pts per day MW
ATI 4850 + vista + ATI drivers 9.1.
No special parameter adjustment exccept n2 for MW.

well 2 days and 120000 to 150000 credits a day later
I have changed to climatepredection 6 WUs running and 6 MW running at the same time
12 to 15% resources for MW and the rest to 1 Ap Climatepredecition
avering 6000 to 7000 credits per hour run.
find it best to leave Boinc Manager alone.
haven't worried about debts or changing scripts as yet.

The later versions do have severe problems with work fetch -- the latest 'released' version is truly bad. Frankly, all the 6.x iterations have had one issue or another (with 6.4.5 perhaps being the least bad). In setups where I don't have a BOINC supported GPU and am not runnnig Vista/Win7, I go with 5.4.5 as the best choice. The designers really seem to 'know better' than users regarding what needs to be done with the BOINC client. (My preference is cleaner more rational code over feature creap, but what do I know).

I have down graded BOINC to 6.4.5 as I think the work fetch and work scheduling does not work appropriately with the post 6.6.20 versions - but then I haven't tried the latest ones with my current set up.

I run 6.6.20 on my 2 PC's and 6.6.29 on my Mac, I have not had any problems with resource sharing on any of them.

Only the quad has the video card and it runs 4 SETI and 3 MW just fine.
