Hi everybody! Yesterday, among BOINC messages, I found this: Sat 04 Jul 2009 07:52:40 PM CEST Milkyway@home Message from server: Completed result ps_sgr_214F5_3s_hiw_9257786_1246460479_0 refused: this result wasn't sent (not needed) This happened several times already, so, since it takes some time (+ CPU, RAM, etc.) to complete a task, I would like to know what causes this problem, and how to fix it, so that, in case it can't, I can detach from this project and let other tasks run in its place. Many thanks in advance! |

Hi everybody! Yesterday, among BOINC messages, I found this: Maybe the result was passed the deadline, was sent out to someone else who completed it immediately, then the insta-purge kicked in and deleted it. Then you tried to return the original result for BOINC to find that it didn't exist anymore. Have you installed the optimised CPU app? |

Maybe the result was passed the deadline, was sent out to someone else who completed it immediately, then the insta-purge kicked in and deleted it. Nope, results are always completed in time. If time is drawing to an end, they're aborted beforehand. I always check deadlines and messages, and behave accordingly. This is why I don't get this. As for the "optimised CPU app", I'm not sure what it is. I googled around for a while, but didn't find much. It may be worth mentioning, perhaps, that I'm running BOINC v. 6.6.29 on Ubuntu Jaunty. |

The optimised application is a refinement of the stock application for specific processor types. So processors have instruction sets - a series of commands to make math quicker. Some have more than others. If the CPU code takes advantage of this, then it will run quicker. However you can't just make everyone blanket download the same code, because some PCs will not have these faster instruction optimisations. The CPU optimised app link is in many threads in this forum, as well as help to install it. The website you need is http://zslip.com - have a read around the forum if you have time to get info on how to use it if the readme is unclear. |

Thanks for the info, borandi. I'll give it a look later today. However, as my original query regarded rejected results within their deadlines, I will wait before installing an optimised application that just runs quicker but doesn't promise to solve my initial problem. I'll keep waiting in case somebody has an answer to that. Many thanks! |

Without being able to see the specifics of your original problem, we can't be sure of what the issue was... The best suggestion was to go ahead and use the optimized application for your system. That could take care of it... |
