Posted 25 Apr 2008 by Paratima Post: How come the assimilator (whatever that is) is clogged up? Isn't that condition steering us toward another outage? I was about to start transferring some machines back to this project. Think I'll wait until y'all get things working smoothly. |

Increased WU Credit
(Message 2886)
Posted 28 Mar 2008 by Paratima Post: In my opinion, 4.02 credits is probably just a wee bit higher than it needs to be. That, and increased client/server stability are why I came back. Don't change a thing! :o) P.S. I would not have come back JUST for the points. Stability is the main thing. |

(Message 1649)
Posted 6 Feb 2008 by Paratima Post: The following WU's have been cancelled by me and several other crunchers, after failing to complete successfully. They should be hunted down and destroyed before they waste other people's computer time. As it is, they are returned marked as "No Reply" and just get sent out again. 1545279 1545327 1545236 1545326 1545209 1545231 1545191 1545183 |

Stats update frequency
(Message 1600)
Posted 26 Jan 2008 by Paratima Post: I'd like to re-address this issue. It seems to have fallen off the to-do list. There are many of us who "tune" our DC farms with the information provided by 3rd-party stats. Most of those stats engines check for updated XML files more or less hourly. As far as I can tell, Milkyway XML's are being updated maybe twice a day. This is not enough to be really helpful. Could we shoot for every four hours? That would be six updates a day and would greatly improve our efforts. It's a fairly simple change to the cron jobs and no one has to do anything further to oversee it. Thanks. |

Updated Erroneous Credit
(Message 799)
Posted 29 Nov 2007 by Paratima Post: Fozzie has been crunching with us for years and has never been associated with any sort of foul play. Before the blowup, he was easily in 2nd place. Those dual Xeons are monsters! I urge you as strongly as possible to look at restoring all his points. Maybe leave your xeon crunching for a day so i can see what kind of credit it's getting? How can we set this up? |

Keeping Us Up To Date
(Message 717)
Posted 28 Nov 2007 by Paratima Post: What a dull world it would be, if we all thought the same way. We are here, closely watching a new project to catch any glitches that happen so that we may report them and thereby make the world a better place. This is totally unlike an established project with a long, predictable record. We do NOT know what to expect here, except that stuff will happen. So stuff goes wrong. We report it. We wait. And we wait. And we get nervous, thinking that maybe nobody on the other end is listening. Now, if Travis is the only person working on this project and he can only pay attention to it every other day, between midnight and two, then he should say so. Properly adjust people's expectations and you avoid misunderstandings. So far, on this project, we have little to go on. It crashed last week (don't ask me to remember times and dates, it crashed) and we heard nothing until Monday. Then we didn't get notified; stuff just started working. Then it went down again. And again, no notices until I started this thread. I don't feel that I have insulted anyone. If I did, I apologize, but someone may need to grow some thicker skin. Admining a project like this is no place for weak sisters. Travis has done a fair job, but could do better, in my humble opinion. I have been on his side of the fence and I know how a very little effort to keep people up to speed goes a really long way! Looking on the main board right now, I see 5 (five) messages, all dated the same day --- Great job!!! |

Posted 27 Nov 2007 by Paratima Post: Dear Admins and Moderators: It takes so little time to dash off a message... We care about your project enough to invest our time and our computers' time in it. We want a say in what happens and will cheerfully debate the tiniest matter to death and sometimes, well beyond. However, in the end, most of us will accede to whatever you determine is best for the project, as long as it's basically fair. A few will leave, but that's life. A major part of your end of the bargain is to keep us informed! We don't have much sympathy for the people in charge leaving us in the dark. It causes volunteers to vote with their feet. The more you communicate, the more trust and cooperation you'll get from us. Simple as that. You have a place for News on the front page. You could make a sticky thread in this forum that only you can write to, called Status. All manner of communications are open to you. Pick one and use it on a regular basis and we'll be much happier contributing the horsepower. A great place to start would be "What's happening right now?" |

Since the filedeleter did NOT get stopped, whether the results can even be screened is now in question. I suspect that the answer is that they cannot. If that is the case, we are left with 3 people/2 teams way out in front where they should not be. |
