NO FILE libwinpthread-1.dll
WIN 7 64 home ATI 7970

+1

When i try to start the apps with "-?" as parameter.
(I always try new apps before really letting them run)
Maybe there are more required files missing...

[edit]
Adding the missing lib "libwinpthread-1.dll" from a mingw-w64 installation fixes this!
Unfortunately i can't find a separate download for it on the sourceforge site... :/

[edit2]
This fixes it only when running in a win console standalone. For BOINC there is some kind of softlink necessary to accomplish that.

The problem with these looks to be 201 (0xc9) EXIT_MISSING_COPROC. I don't know if it's caused by the new app or what, but the server should have stopped sending these machines work long before they trashed this many thousands of work units.
...

This is most probably related to Win10 unsolicited updating the graphics drivers without the proper OpenCL components.

Brave new world... :/

In the last time i get more and more of these. I think it is related to some driver issues with AMD and/or Win 10 not recognizing/installing the required OpenCL features of the drivers. I think the threshold should be risen from 5 to at least 10, like in other projects.

BTW: Will these WUs be resend in the future or will their scientific value be lost forever?

The nvidia opencl 101 ver. 1.38 is broken. GPU load is zero and the GPU clock stays at idle level and the units take nearly the fourfold time than they used to complete... :/

Actually this starts to annoy me a lot...

Maybe it is this issue with installing BOINC as a service or the user connect to that particular computer via remote desktop. If they do this, Windows loads a "virtual" graphics driver, which isn't capable of crunching, therefore no more GPU available to BOINC. This is only recoverable by rebooting the machine. This is a well known fact, which seems to do not bother a lot of individuals... :/

Wow, i got 18 invalids in a row:

Why do people abort these tasks and waste my and others crunching time... X(

Hi there,

in the last time i get more and more WUs in this status: "Completed, can't validate".
My cruncher is running fine and uploads valid results. Formerly i got only from time
to time a unit like that, but now i have 4(!!) on one cruncher alone.
I'm a bit pi**ed "unhappy" for wasting precious crunching time... ;)

Just to inform:

Now everything is working smooth again - thank you!

40 per GPU and 8 per core: 40 * 2 + 8 * 4 = 112 WUs :)
Since i run 2 instances per GPU there are always 8 units in parallel.

Finally even my work laptop has come to a complete halt, because i have to wait (waste) another 35 minutes to get new WUs... :/

I still only get GPU WUs on my main cruncher (Core2Quad), not a single CPU WU.
On the other hand my work laptop gets CPU work without problem - what's going on?! :?

Hmm, now i only have ~40 for both GPUs and nothing, null, niente, nada for the CPUs.
In a few moments my cruncher runs completely dry... :?

It appears to be deferring communication for 1 hour after an update, not 30 minutes.

I can second that, the server defers communication for 1 hour.

Hello together,

before the change my host was able to get 92 tasks, 40 tasks * 2 GPUs = 80, ergo 92 - 80 = 12 WUs for my 4 cores, meaning ONLY 3(!!) WUs per core.

After the change the same host gets 172 tasks, 80 tasks * 2 GPUs = 160, ergo 172 - 160 = 12 WUs for 4(!!) cores, meaning STILL ONLY 3 WUs per core.

This is waaay too low IMHO. :?

Best regards, Uli

Doesn't work correctly on my end. It runs fast in the beginning of the simulation and gets slower as it gets to the end and then just stalls at 100% and at which point it has to be aborted because it just hangs. All my other computers have the same issue with this simulation.

Same issue here, starts very sporty and then begins to lag more and more. Additionally, when BOINC is restarted, the application starts again at 0% - what a bummer!

Hi Dave,

your Windows tablet is running the 32 bit version of Windows 8.1 and the other applications rely on the 64 bit version of Windows, that's the reason.

Hi there,

i finally found the optimal configuration for my GPU setup. I now run two instances of Milkyway per GPU and one instance on CPU. For that i use the following app_config.xml:

<app_config>

<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.25</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

</app_config>

Additionally i raised the "Frequency (in Hz) that should try to complete individual work chunks." from 60 to 100, to prevent screen lags. Now the GPU usage is a constant 99% on both GPUs and the system is responsive and usable without deficits. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! :)

Hi there,

thanks for the suggestions, i tried them. I freed one core, but the GPU load on the GT 640 remained at about 55-60%. The GT 640 is running at max speed, there is no throttling. Excluding the GT 430 does not influence the crunching on the GT 640. The only way to max out the GT 640 is running two instances via app_config.xml, but then screen lags occur and the GT 430 starts thrashing memory. I think i'll have to live with that. :?

Hello everybody,

i'm new to this project and have a question:
My system is a dual GPU setup using a Nvidia GT 640 an a Nvidia GT 430. In other projects the GT 640 is about 2.5 times faster than the GT 430 but not so in Milkyway. Here the GT 430 completes a standard task in about 20 minutes, where the GT 640 uses about 25 minutes. Also the GPU load is ~80-90% on the GT 430 where the GT 640 reaches only ~55-60& GPU load. Is there a way to improve the performance and load on the GT 640?
