Good luck for the final push! How much RAC did you lose over last night?

Here's my problem:

I've ran into situation's where the multi-threaded N-body will take 7.80 of my CPU. This will place 7 other active CPU tasks (sse3) on hold, while it finishes the Nbody; and after the Nbody finishes... it grabs another Nbody... and it can cause a hit to my RAC as no GPU tasks get queued (so my GPU idles) and the remaining 7 sse3 tasks don't have enough cores accessible to finish or resume crunching.

help.

Any thoughts? Hate to keep this bumped, but I don't think you 69XX folks that are rocking the top of RAC are running the stock application. :)

6990 oced to 930/1380 will typically crunch between 59 and 69 seconds. Ive had some inconsisent results though. Ill be adding another 6990 next month... Hoping that the drivers are a bit more stable by then. 3rd week in and already having wierd issues with CCC. At stock bios selection 2, this card will most likely perform very similar to a 6970 per WU... It just has 2 of them per card.

my apologies if this already exists and I'm just bad at finding it. can anyone point me where I need to be? The sticky at the top didn't seem to have anything that worked.

I don't observe any meaningful temp difference between cores on .50 work (I use an i7 975). Core's 0 and 2 typically run 1-2 degree's hotter.

Could it be improperly applied thermal paste?

Have been using the 6990 for about a week now. Overclocked with stock cooling... runs anywhere between 92 to 101 C under full load.

It's a hot card.

Using both the 5970 and the 6990 with GDDR5 memory, I've always experienced that higher memory clocks do decrease WU crunch time.

You will be fine. Your card architecture is built to handle more stress and heat than that.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to get it running and overclocked surprising fast. 65 seconds per workunit!

Team,

Quick question... I'm going to install a new video card on my primary number crunching machine. I've been stressing production over the last few weeks trying to break the top 100 hosts. I wanted to get some insight into how the RAC is calculated. Does it decay in real time or do I have a window to do this upgrade? I'm moving from 5970 to 6990, so will want around a day to test drivers/over clocks for optimal performance, play with it, etc... I just want to get a feel for what kind of reduction in RAC I can expect.

Thanks,
Justin

I would love to get one, but I think I'm holding out for the GTX 590. I'm pretty much down with AMD.
