OK with the latest MSFT patches it appears to be functioning again. I am on the insider track at MSFT for Win10 and receive many "updates" before they are ready for prime time. I really dislike devops style of coding. Note the latest patches did not change the OS build number which I can not explain.

I am running an AMD A10-6800k Win 10 64 Pro build 17763.104 and the N-Body Simulation 1.72 (mt) 4 CPUs, seem to for lack of better definition run away. The first one I let run for 24 hours before aborting, then today I had two more (de_nbody_10-11-2018_v172_20k_data_2_1538704602_247830_0 and de_nbody_10-11-2018_v172_20k_data_1_1538704602_247907_0) which are exhibiting similar symptoms. The symptoms are the Remaining increases at more than double the Elapsed. I currently have them suspended.

I have been having power blips recently and decided to to invest in a UPS for my desktop. I have an AMD 945 quad CPU and an ATI 4870 GPU. Well measuring the watts used during different configurations I discovered that if I set the preferences to use 90% of the processors then my watt usage fell well below 300 watts, if I lower the % of the processors to 60%, effectively only using 2 cores, then my wattage jumps up to the 320-335 range (exceeding a 550kVa ups range). My conclusion is that the GPU was being starved for data because there were insufficient CPU cycles to supply it with data. Any other thoughts and/or ideas?

The long and short of it is that using to much CPU slows down GPU processing.
And yes I purchased a 1000 kVa UPS.

OK I have an AMD 945 CPU, an ATI 4875, and an 780G chipset motherboard, running XP64. I am NOT using current drivers and have had to limit non-Milky tasks running to 2 cores when I enable GPU computing. It appears as if the bus, dk if memory or which bus, is being very heavily used. I have a HD3200 GPU in my chipset which is driving my secondary monitor. As I type this I am getting extremely choppy video response on my secondary monitor, I did not before. One month ago I was running 3 cores on other grid tasks and 1 Milkyway task on GPU and had NO degradation on my secondary monitor. This post is meant to provide information for those working on the code and the new interface.

The normal for these type of runs (3 CPU cores) has been 5 to 30 minutes. This one I suspended after nearly 2 hours. I figure I need to abort unless someone says differently because it almost looks like it is stuck in an infinite loop.

I have a WU that seems to be in error
MilkyWay@Home N-Body Simulation v0.66 (mt)
using 3 cores at 3.2 Ghz and the time to completion is increasing faster than the elapsed. Right now elapsed is 1:57:03 and to completeion is 4:15:45 and climbing, should I abort this WU?
task is 18273137
wu is 14143751

I am sorry but I am not deep enough into this to know what projects my cycles are processing. What I do know is that up until about a month or two ago both my video card and the HD3200 GPU in the chipset were processing tasks from Milkyway@home. In fact I was a little surprised that both the 4875 and the 3200 produced almost equivalent output. I had to disable the use of my chipset GPU with the recent revisions of the client (.58) after the server issues. I have heard/seen the double precision issues before but the ATI HD3200 seemed to have the capabilities before. If the hardware does or does not have the capabilities, I have not bothered to investigate. But with the multiple revisions of the client recently, being in the software industry, I thought it worth asking if the GPU is again usable. It would be sad to lose all the calculations of a GPU because of no communications.

Can the .62 use the GPU in the AMD chipsets like it could a few months ago?

I have a ATI4875 (Gigabyte branded) as my primary display and yes the APP Driver set was loaded. I am wonder if the ATI 3200 built into the 780G chipset is the problem, and if short of disabling it completely ( I use it to drive a secondary monitor ) is there a means to tell milkyway not to use it. That would also explain why 1 GPU process seems to run OK while the other GPU work units quickly error out. That is the 4875 is processing correctly and the 3200 errors out over and over quickly consuming all the wu. The $64 question is that up until the recent server issues both GPUs ran fine, in fact they ran at similar speeds.

Everything but the BAM client I had done with my last post. I just completely shut down boinc and re-started it which I assume will update the BAM client.

I have downloaded and installed the lastest drivers from the AMD web site and still get errors on all GPU calculations. I have disabled GPU until I can find a resolution to this issue. Any ideas besides lastest drivers?

While I do not know if yours will crossfire, mine won't, I am running both a 4870 and a 3200 (in the chipset) fine together. They show up as 2 different GPUs to process tasks. There is normally only 15 seconds max in the time used for each task between the two.
