Please keep Separation running! I'm willing to contibute hardware that specifically excels in FP64 for the help of the project. It would be a shame if I had to transition elsewhere.. :(

I don't think you read the reason for shutting down separation. The project has enough data for their research.

. How long would you like us to wait before we shut down Separation?

Around 2030. :(

Amicable numbers uses around 8Gb per task (for GPUs)
NFS@Home large tasks use up to 1.25Gb per task as well.

You really should consider upgrading to Window 10 at the least or a modern distro of Linux.

Windows XP is extremely old. Not saying it is the root cause of the errors, but it definitely could be.

I reported it two days ago when the system was still working properly, but nobody fixed it and there we are again with millions of tasks waiting for validation and making everything unusable. Oh, well, Moo! gets my GPU until it's fixed.

The issue actually started around the 17th of this month. Just look at the "tasks ready to send" chart and you'll see that they spiked to ~250k and have slowly dropped since then and after reaching "normal" levels the pending tasks started going haywire.

Due to the recent backlog of pending tasks the server appears to no longer be generating new work units. Pending tasks are still ridiculously high with 1.7+ million tasking pending validation (I have nearly 130k myself)

Web site is slow to load in most areas including the forum, tasks and server status pages.

Something is clearly not working correctly and needs to be looked at, restarted, rebooted or just a nice swift kick on the side of it. Server admin's choice.

If the admins aren't aware of the issue then the disk(s) will potentially fill up. When that happens no new tasks will be created and no tasks will be able to be uploaded. Thus, halting the progress of the project until it's sorted.

Yes, the pendings started climbing at an alarming rate not too long ago.

Even surprising the spike that happened back during the FB Sprint when one team dropped all their bunkers.

I'm currently sitting at nearly 60k pendings myself.

My RTX A2000 is about 220sec/task

for 300 euros 2nd hand and <60W it's decent I guess ?

Is that just one task at a time?

BOINCGames.com has a Sprint coming up in approx. 14 hours: Skiing Alpine World Ski Championships 02/15/2023 14:00 (UTC) - 02/19/2023 14:00 (UTC)

Your project is elgible for being randomly selected (by a computer).

This Sprint may bring a slightly higher than usual load on your servers for the duration, but BOINCGames.com is still under BETA testing and the particpiation level is still relatively low.

This is just a heads-up that you might want to ensure there is enough work for the participants if your project is selected.

Seems the SSL cert is broken. Click link to see the chart until I can get the cert fixed.

That's why I wonder if this project will slowly produce less results.

Not really, the SP:DP ratio is maybe lower than it was before on some selected cards (4:1 IIRC only Cayman, Tahiti and Radeon VII), but on average the DP performance is still a lot higher than it used to be and CPUs are getting faster too. I don't see there any slowdown. Not sure what cards were released at the end of 2019, but that's when the last significant increase of monthly credit happened, you can clearly see it in the graph, quite stable since than with small after-christmas-bumps.

Seems that 2020 was the uptick year.

2008 - 2009 seen growth
2010 seen a major growth
2011 - 2016 seen decline
2017 - 2019 seen good growth
2020 has seen the best growth of the project
2021 - 2022 being the 2nd and 3rd best years of the project might have seen a slight decline due to server issues.

Keep in mind, the 280X came out in 2013 which was for the longest time one of the best performing gaming cards for Milkyway, yet we still seen a decline from the year before that and the following 3 years seen a decline as well.

The Titan V, which was released in 2017 was the first growth of the project since the 2008 - 2010 years.

The Radeon VII was launched in the beginning of 2019 and only saw minimal growth from 2018.

I think the only thing that will hold MW back would be the server hardware for now (unless the upgrades have taken place already)
55) Message boards : Number crunching : seems AMD VII cannot be used on a riser (Message 74858)
Posted 26 Dec 2022 by Skillz
Post:
Are you sure its just not a bad riser? They aren't very reliable. Milkyway doesn't really use much PCI-e lanes, but you will see improvements on fast cards running at least 8x anything less and it does hinder performance, but marginally.

Getting a kick out of a teammate who deployed a single Titan V card here running Separation tasks at 8X concurrency and still getting 3.5 seconds per task.

That card isn't showing up in the Top GPU cards list yet either.

Should go into the New Benchmark Thread for a target to shoot for.

If only those cards had more VRAM. They'd be unstoppable.

When I need to use Windows on a BOINC only box I just install the trial version of Windows 10. It will tell you, you need to buy a license and leave a permanent watermark on the lower right of the screen, but outside of that everything else works fine. (I think some advanced features are disabled, but ive not found out what) and for BOINC it's not an issue

I had a similar issue on my Windows computer; turns out it was a SSL issue and installing a Microsoft update fixed it. (I installed BOINC before I updated Windows. D'oh)

Do you remember the update? I'm having an SSL problem at another project on a Win 7 pc

No I do not remember the update exactly. I had just installed the system and it had a lot of updates. After that all was well.
