app_info.xml file for 2 WUs/nVIDIA GPU ?
(Message 53450)
Posted 26 Feb 2012 by S@NL - Mellowman Post: I have 12GB using an i7 2600K (8 vitual cores) and I ran out of memory because I had set my swap file to 16 MB. Also I run Cosmology on 7 CPU cores (leaving 1 core free for supplying data to my 2 (soon 3) GPU's. But Cosmology uses 700-800 MB of memory so that adds up. And I do (not a lot) more than crunching on this machine. Browse the net and using it with my TV dual-tuner card to record/watch TV an play music/movies/DVD's. Although the music stuff I prefer doing on my older dual core pc as it stutters sometimes on my i7 2600K. I'm using Winamp for listening to music and internet radio and it's priority is even on realtime (not adviced to use high or realtime on other programs). But the stutter/crackling sound remains. Posted 26 Feb 2012 by S@NL - Mellowman Post: Not anymore. Now that I'm over 1M the milestones are getting further apart. Now my next milestone would be 2M probably, then 2.5M because it's a nice number then 3M and from there every million up to 10M if I'll ever reach that before I die. I still might be posting my BOINC total milestones (every 1M up 10M at least) and together with posting the MW or BOINC Total milestones, the milestones I've reached in other projects. |

My new HD6950 is doing just fine (besides the multiple crashes that system has had). Edit: I see now I already passed 900K. Maybe I'll reach 1M today too then, with another 12 hours and 8 minutes left in the day. Otherwise I'll pas it tomorrow. |

Need suggestions for a mainboard for 2 highend GPU's
(Message 53300)
Posted 19 Feb 2012 by S@NL - Mellowman Post: I too ordered a Geforce GTX-560-ti (Fermi) 1GB gpu, but I got mine, I am in the US and our prices are MUCH less than yours, for $175 after a $25 rebate! I got it from Newegg: But I ordered 2x GTX-560TI-448 for €245 each. Those are better ones than the one you ordered. They have 448 CUDA cores and 1280 MB, yours has 384 CUDA cores and 1024 MB. I am using an Asrock board and after buying it was told that it was not a good choice as they often have 'issues'. Mine went right together with NO PROBLEMS at all and the pc is running just fine! I hope you too have the same luck as I am!! On the SETI forum there was also a guy that said they were no good, but there were a couple of other guys who didn't have any problems with it. I had to buy that one because I couldn't find a not too expensive board that could run 3 GPU's at 8-8-4 with a PCIe x1 TV-tuner card. Most boards can run 3 GPU's at 8-8-4 but as soon as you put another PCIe x1 card in, it becomes 8-8-1. ASRock has put an extra chip on the board so you have a couple of more lanes. If you check the Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 you'll see they even put on a Nvidia chip on that one for even more extra PCIe lanes (plus the chip they've also put on the ASRock Extreme4 Gen.3), so you could run 3 GPU's at 16-8-8 and still add another PCIe x1 card and you would still run your 3 GPU's at 16-8-8. I did find some ASUS boards but it wasn't really clear if they could do 8-8-4 too while adding an extra PCIe x1 card. And the cheapest one of those was way over €200 and I payed €170 for my ASRock Extreme4 Gen.3. Besides my ASRock board I ordered (some prices include shipping): Intel Core i7 2600K €279,- Corsair Vengeance Blue 1600MHZ 2x4GB €47,- 2 x OCZ Vertex 3 S-ATA 3 60 GB €188,- Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1300W €270,- Gigabyte GV-R695OC-1GD €240,- 2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FTW €491,- ---------------------------------------------- Total cost: €1677,- I'm expecting that it will arrive monday/tuesday. Some stuff definitly on tuesday. Anthony. |

Posted 17 Feb 2012 by S@NL - Mellowman Post: Thanks for the link. I totally forgot that it needed a screen or a dummy plug. BTW the shop saw the error about the videocard. It was incorrectly linked. So now I get my money back and order 2 GTX-560TI-448 somewhere else for €265 (without shipping). Thanks mikey. |

Posted 17 Feb 2012 by S@NL - Mellowman Post: @mikey: plans have changed. I've read reviews and saw benchmarks from the AMD Bulldozer cpu's and they are slow compared to Intel Sandy Bridge cpu's. Even the fastest one can't beat the i5 2500. So I'm going with Intel. I'll probably go with an i5 or an i7 2600K. My topic question changed a bit though. I now need a board for 3 highend GPU cards. It must have an HDMI output for Intels IGP, and where the PCI-E lanes are divided 8-8-4 (there are only 20 lanes available for GPU's, am I right?). I need brand and type. My first choice (3 months ago) was a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD5 so it should be cheaper than €259. I based my choice solely on the onboard soundchip (the ALC889 is the best onboard soundchip there is) and on the fact it had both optical and coaxial digital outputs. Those choices became less important to me. Price is important too. Don't check this site for specifications because they can be incomplete and don't mention how the lanes are divided. All the links in this post are from the same site and the site is in Dutch. If you have suggestions please check the price in my country. Select the socket type beneath the word 'Moederborden' (this link brings you directly to socket 1155 boards), find or select your suggested board (there's a column on the right and a search box above it to make the selection easier and to make the list of boards shorter) and click on the price to find a webshop/store with 1-3 day or 24 hours delivery (the light green delivery truck or dark green with 24 on top). I need the second price because it is with delivery costs. I'll do my own search too and if I find multiple boards I'll post them here so I can hear your opinion(s) about them. For the PSU I'm going with a Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1300W. Anthony. |
