powerpc-linux-gnu support

Posted 25 May 2014 by ceekei Post: Hi, I'm running boinc-7.2.42 on powerpc-linux-gnu and I have noticed that it's not getting new work units any more. In fact, I noticed this a long time ago but haven't looked into it until now. The last message from stdoutdae.txt was: 10-Jun-2013 06:10:54 [Milkyway@Home] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 10-Jun-2013 06:10:54 [Milkyway@Home] Requesting new tasks for CPU 10-Jun-2013 06:10:57 [Milkyway@Home] Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks 10-Jun-2013 06:10:59 [Milkyway@Home] Started download of 79_constrained_rev_3.prmtrs 10-Jun-2013 06:11:01 [Milkyway@Home] Finished download of 79_constrained_rev_3.prmtrs 10-Jun-2013 06:13:17 [Milkyway@Home] Computation for task ps_separation_79_DR8_rev_1_1366886102_23900132_0 finished 10-Jun-2013 06:13:17 [Milkyway@Home] Starting task ps_separation_79_DR8_rev_3_1370577207_2197297_0 using milkyway version 50 in slot 0 10-Jun-2013 06:13:18 [Milkyway@Home] Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. 10-Jun-2013 06:13:18 [Milkyway@Home] Reporting 1 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks 10-Jun-2013 06:13:20 [Milkyway@Home] Scheduler request completed 14-Jun-2013 11:22:39 [Milkyway@Home] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 14-Jun-2013 11:22:39 [Milkyway@Home] Requesting new tasks for CPU 14-Jun-2013 11:22:41 [Milkyway@Home] Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 14-Jun-2013 11:22:41 [Milkyway@Home] No tasks sent 14-Jun-2013 11:22:41 [Milkyway@Home] Tasks for NVIDIA GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 14-Jun-2013 11:22:41 [Milkyway@Home] Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them ...and this was the end of it. My system doesn't have a usable GPU (PowerBook G4), it was always using the CPU for the tasks. Looking at all_projects_list.xml now I can see that "powerpc-linux-gnu" is no longer listed in the <platforms> tag, this post seems to confirm that. I'm only wondering if there has been an official announcement of dropping powerpc-linux-gnu support and the reasoning behind it. Does anyone have more information on that? Thanks, C. |
