I doubt that your 1 lost logical core is "doing nothing".
Some of it will be used by the system, some by MW and some by other tasks.
Typically, if you free a CPU core/thread you see a slight improvement from many types of CPU tasks, so it's rarely a complete loss of a CPU thread.
If you are using 7 from 8 threads then I would expect you to see overall CPU usage above 87.5% - the difference is what you are not losing. What does task manager say?

"You might want to mention that most of the NVidia GeForce cards are poor for double precision tasks, especially the Fermi cards".

I dribbled on and lost the ball...

As suggested, Except the Fermi cards would have been closer to the mark, if you consider the GeForce cards not to be full fat Fermi's, and "most of the NVidia GeForce cards are poor for double precision tasks" might have sufficed - there is probably not many Tesla's here and those that forked out for one would probably have read the manual.

Anyway, Matt has added some compatible cards to the main list.

Cheers guys,

May I suggest you add the GeForce GTX 465, GTX 550 Ti, GTX 560, GTX 560 Ti, GTX 570 and GTX 590, and if you are going to include the GeForce GT 430, you might as well include the GT 545 versions. Not sure about the GT 530 though, is it worth including?

While you are at it, and due to their 1/2 FP32 performance you might want to add the the extremely expensive,
Tesla's:
Tesla C2050 (515 gigaflops of double precision performance) 3GB
Tesla C2070 (Workstation) same as the C2050 but 6GB
These are similar to the GTX470 cards; 448:56:40, but without as much disabled, with more GDDR5 and with ECC - which when on further reduces performance.

and the even more expensive,
DataCentre Tesla's:
Tesla M2090 (665 DP Gigaflops)
Tesla M2070, Tesla M2050 and S2050 (515 DP GFlops)

Oh, and the,
Quadro Desktop's:
Quadro 6000, 5000, 4000 should all work.
    Relative SP to DP performance's:
Tesla series: DP performance is 1/2 GF100 SP performance,
Quadro 4000-6000: DP performance is 1/2 SP
GTX 5xx: DP is 1/8 SP
Quadro 600-2000: DP is 1/12 SP

Then there are all those OEM and Notebook GPU's ;)

Constellation is presently by invitation only, it does not yet have a public project.

Orbit has had no tasks for some time - it is very intermittant.

Einstein is an Astrophysics project, not an Astronomy project.

None of the multiple application projects run Astronomy apps.

the real point is to find a model for the Milkyway's potential

By potential I take it you mean mass and velocity,
and MVmilkyway - SumMiVi = dark matter mass X V (i for individual stars, dust, planets, moons...)?

The GTX470 seems to have worked, going by credit totals, but the tasks don't hang around long online.

Are you aware that on XP, Win 2000 - 2003 servers the 260.xx drivers do not have the option to run at prefer maximum performance in NVidia control panel, Power management mode. Many cards, by default, drop their freq to the minimum? Even for Fermi cards Performance is not present in Global settings and while it is present in Program Settings, it is stuck at adaptive; cant be changed to Prefer Maximum Performance.

Would a GTX470 work with 260.99 with the app?

Good luck,

Will a MilkyWay@Home de_seperation... task run using the MW v0.50 (cuda_opencl) app on a GTX260-216, Win x64, NVidia 197.45 driver?

The home page suggests that people use the link I used to add the project in the Boinc Client.

The point poeple seem to be missing here is that there actually is a GPU home page!

It suggests people sign up and it even gives people the link to the non-active project.

I posted the errors so that the author could have a look at the HTML and fix it!

I also wanted people to know that the project is not yet live yet,

This was not an open invitation for smart mouths to stick their necks out and lip off.

Even so, it is an uninformed opinion. MilkyWay_GPU isn't ready yet, as everyone should be aware.

So your calling me uninformed and stating the Everyone should be aware of the non-start of a semi-project!

Wind your neck in.

Today I signed up to the MilkyWay_GPU Project.

I entered the Project URL as suggested,
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_gpu/

Although already registered with the MilkyWay project I had to re-register - I would have preferred not to do this. I would have liked the project to respect existing users in the same way other projects do.

After re-registering, Im taken to the find a team page, with the following errors,

Notice: Undefined variable: params in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/user/team_search.php on line 167
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 35

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 43

I choose the, not interested in joining a team option!

No tasks were forthcoming so I Checked Boinc Messages:

Message from server: server error: feeder not running

I could do with a bite,
