In the spirit of international cooperation and good will to all, I will take up the challenge of not crunching on my GPU until further notice.

I shall ensure my RAC remains below 100 for a while.

Thank you guys. I'm sure my new HD4850 will help take up the slack :)

I think everyone who is not happy with the way things are should just trundle off to SETI or some other dark corner and leave the credits here for me (ME ME ME!!!)

We'll tell that to you at Cosmo. :P

You're welcome, but I am not sure what you are referring to over there. Is it the thread where I gave the most accurate info I could to try to help them find the problem, and where some others did the same? Or did I miss something that happened over there that might prompt such a comment?

Hey moon!

I would set up camp outside the campus and protest that they are not giving enough credits!

It's a shame nobody also has a spare AMD system that they can run the same tests on to see how AMD and Intel compare. Some apps run better on AMD and some on Intel (MW opt apps run better on both than anything else, of course, and SETI opt ap runs twice as fast on Intels as it does on AMD at the same core speed).

I currently only use CPUs, mainly because so far I am unable to afford a decent GPU. I don't care whether there is one project or two. My numbers are good enough without a GPU, and although I would rank higher with separate projects, I am happy with how it is. My rankings, as shown on BOINCstats, are:

MW: Ranked 838
Worldwide combined: 18,904 and rising out of 1,647,545
Country (International): 713 and rising out of 323090
Combined RAC: 1,737 (fluctuating, mostly close to 2000) out of 1,647,545
BOINCstats World Cup: 929

I think out of more than 1.6 million crunchers, those figures are quite good for someone with no usable GPU. It won't change just because the project splits, except that I would rise in the MW CPU rankings, but that is not all it is about.

OK, I am a credit hound (junkie/whore/whatever), and do more work on projects where the credits are high than on others, but I also work on projects with low credits (one of the lowest for me at the moment being one where the science is far more important than anything).

I stopped chasing aliens some time ago, but my RAC on SETI shows I still chase the credits their opt app gives on my Intel system :)

I hope this whole situation is sorted one way or the other soon, so we can find something else to squabble over. This one is already getting tedious :)

But, regardless of the stupidity of having any lights on before Earth Hour, if the same effort could be conjured to persuade the users of the world’s one billion PCs to power down their PC's for just one night, that would save the energy used by the Empire State Building for the next 30 years.

But, but, but....

That would be 5,000 credits! (I sleep a lot!) :)

And what TV series had an episode that refered to "purple and orange squadrons"?

I was going to guess Captain Scarlet with it's 'multi-coloured' characters, but since you mention 'an episode' I pass on this one.

While google is your friend, Battlestar Galactica is the saviour of mankind :)

Yawn...I hate waking up early!

I think we all hate getting up early. I had to get up early a few days ago, because someone had the cheek to phone me before 1 PM ! Now how am I supposed to be a night owl AND see the morning?

Hmm, I got up early today as well, to go fetch some bales of straw, and someone had stolen them before I got there!

Oh well, it's almost 2 PM. Time for a bath and a nap :)

I don't see what is wrong with a carefully thought out script. A script that is written to hammer the server more than it needs to is something else.

On both my amd dual-core and my Core 2 Duo Ihave had MW delays of up to 24 hours. I dont have a GPU (yet! Look out boys :) )

I run a script that controls a number of projects, and uploads completed workunits every 40 minutes (all have something to upload on most connection attempts). 40 minutes is often enough that if the server does not give work, I won't run out before the next connection.

If I knew how to detect whether a specific project is waiting to upload or has run out of work, or better still how to tell how many tasks are in my queue waiting to start, I would write the sriptto check every so often whether a project is running short of work, and I would only connect at that time.
I figure connecting every 40 minutes (time on MW and some other projects for doing more than 2 tasks) is not excessive, given that it helpsto prevent myfarm from running out of work on those projects that are most important to me.

And yes, I AM a credit "whore". I just don't have the hardware yet to reach the top 1000 here or in BOINC combined :)
