1) Message boards : Number crunching : How do you force Boinc to request work? (Message 42177)
Posted 16 Sep 2010 by Ironworker16
Post:
Is there a way to force boinc to request work for a single or multiple projects on a schedule other than hitting the update button? I have been reading about the cc_config.xml file and looking for a command that I could use but, if there is one I could not find it. I believe it can be done but I don’t know where to start. Need some help/guidance setting this up.

Is there any special incantation required to get nbody wus flowing [assuming the assimilator is allowing any wus out at all, of course], or should they just flow freely, intermingled with normal ones?

I had to detached from Milkyway and reattached and the work units started flowing, CPU only.

MW is Back !!
That's the Main Thing !!

Crunching WUs for a project you have interest in is way better than staring at an empty Task Queue, regardless whether you get unpteem extra credits than down the street or simply parity or a few less (which simply encourages the optimizations). In any case...

MW is Back !!

(Travis: Slather on an extra dose of Skin Hardener, and keep an eye on "our" new Server Hard Drives !! And... THANKS !!)

I agree, I'm not going anywhere. Also looking the software updates.

I was looking at the ATI web site, and decided to check the drivers for the 5800 series. There is new driver for the 5800 series for Vista and Windows 7, but could not find one for xp 5800 Series driver. I'm running windows 7 but think I will wait until the card had been tested on the MW site. Also with the new driver I do not believe I could use my 4850 with a 5870.

Sound like you were in the SysWOW64 folder and not the System32 folder. You do not need to rename anything in the SysWOW64 folder. You should find aticalrt64.dll, aticalcl64.dll, aticaldd64.dll in the the System32 folder and they are the only files you need to copy and rename. Just rename the copies you still need the orginal files in there. I learned the hard way I rename the files in sysWOW64 folder with a previous version, but after reading the Readme txt several times I realized I was in the wrong folder. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, but all 64 bit versions of windows should have those 2 folders. Good Luck

No need to move backwards to 6.10.3 ;)
Try the 6.10.5 client (works like a charm here).
All bugs of 6.10.3 & 6.10.4 are fixed in that version.

Windows 64 bit ->boinc_6.10.5_x64.zip
Windows 32 bit ->boinc_6.10.5_x32.zip

Will not install, is this the x86 ver

I reinstall 6.10.4 installed Milkyway_0.20_ATI app it is definitely faster! You are the man CP.

Also I reduced the number of cpus in the cc_config file by one, I did not think it was needed with the <coproc></coproc> statements.

It is working and fast but everything is working up to par.
Boinc downloads 48 task but only does the bottom 2 then get new ones so it stays at 48. The 3rd from the bottom start when the other 2 are reporting but never completes because when the new task are downloaded the bottom one start and the 3rd from the bottom restarts each time. I have set Milkway to no new task and it worked from the bottom up and every 4th task ran 1 second and got a error. I let them all complete then change it back to allow new task then it reported all the task and downloaded 48 more repeating what it did before. Also the status of the downloaded the 1st is ready to start and the 2nd is waiting to run(0.05CPUs + 1.00 ATI GPUs) and this repeats for all 48.
I will force the task to complete before the expire.

Most important change from the scientific side is an improved accuracy (better than the stock app ;), which exactly matches the results of the new 0.20 ATI versions (have to run the last tests on that, will be posted tomorrow if nothing goes wrong).

Well this is different, I'll be looking forward to the start of a new work week a Monday.

Thanks CP
14) Message boards : Number crunching : Catalyst 9.9 released (Message 30636)
Posted 13 Sep 2009 by Ironworker16
Post:
Going to keep using the Catalyst 9.9 driver. Changed Boinc version back to 6.6.20, I used 6.10.4 with the Catalyst 9.9 driver most of the day, 6.10.4 would not keep the GPU app running it keep waiting for CPU apps to finish and then the GPU app could have its turn.
Edit: I believe the units are running faster with the new driver.

I have to reinstall the 0.19g app so I might as well try some new drivers. Installed Boinc 6.10.4 and removed the GPU app for the test which at the time I did not know was for 32 bit only. So I might as well play around with the configuration and maybe some good will come of this if the new drivers work better. If not it will be 9.5 again.
17) Message boards : Number crunching : Temporary Availability of the ATI application through BOINC (Message 30587)
Posted 12 Sep 2009 by Ironworker16
Post:
It is live now, I personally don't have any way to verify if it will work so please report any issues and include the BOINC version, Catalyst Version, Operating System, and what video card.

Edit: It will appear as version 19 and is only available for 32 bit Windows and uses version 0.19g SSE2 from Cluster Physik

Wish I had know about the 32-bit only before I reset all my milkyway settings on this computer. :/

ditto

I ask questions 5 hrs ago and when the test starts I get an answer.

My card is a PowerColor HD 4850
I'm using the Driver Version 8.612.0.0 from Catalyst 9.5 with the 3 files renamed.
I haved tried Catalyst 9.6 & 9.8 and went back to 9.5 both times.
I now see Catalyst 9.9 is available, for this test I'm planning on using
my current driver but would change it if it would be of any benefit to the test.

My question is do the 3 files need to be renamed for the test app.
Also should I run my other projects during the test.

Boinc ver. 6.10.4

I tried to update and nothing happen then I supended my other projects and tried again still nothing,

I find it hard to believe that some new code is about to be tested
and the only thing people are talking about is credit. I thought I
was donating computer time expecting something in return take away
from the meaning of donating. I will say credit is nice but that
should not be the main reason for donating you time. I think improving
the performance means more than credit.

How about, Thanks Cluster Physik for all your hard work.
