9/11/2009 9:49:08 PM ATI GPU 0: RV770 (CAL version 1.4.283, 1024MB, 1064GFLOPS)

My card is a PowerColor HD 4850
I'm using the Driver Version 8.612.0.0 from Catalyst 9.5 with the 3 files renamed.
I haved tried Catalyst 9.6 & 9.8 and went back to 9.5 both times.
I now see Catalyst 9.9 is available, for this test I'm planning on using
my current driver but would change it if it would be of any benefit to the test.

My question is do the 3 files need to be renamed for the test app.
Also should I run my other projects during the test.

I just found out I won't be able to participate in the test. A family get-together that I thought would be later in the day now starts at the same time as the test. :(

Set it up now and let it run thats what I'm doing I don't plan on sitting here for 2 hours, but I will be checking on it. I will be running on the CPU except during the test and you can change it back to the GPU app when you get home.

I have install 6,10.4, removed the contents of C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway and restarted Boinc. I am now running work units for Milkyway@Home on a CPU, it has been while since I have done that.

Here is a list of the projects that I'm running. Do I continue to run all my project or just Milkway during the test and is there anything else I need to do.

What I have noticed is that my RAC has went up over 2000 since installing 0.19g.

Uninstalled 9.8 went back to 9.5 seems to be the best with win7 64

I just reached 1 million for MW thanks to the GPU app. I have crunch more with the GPU app in just over a month than I have with a CPU in the pass 4 years.

Thanks for the link. That was one thread that I definitely had missed. It was just what I was looking for. Here is a list of some of my hardware and the changes I have made so far. My computer contains i7 core (920) processor, Windows 7 RC, 6 GB of memory, the graphics card is a PowerColor HD 4850 with 1GB of GDDR3 memory. When I installed the 0.19f ATI GPU app I was using Catalyst 9.6 and Boinc ver 6.6.36 but it was not very stable and scheduling was terrible. When MW would crash all I had to do was restart Boinc but to get my other projects to fetch work I would have to suspend projects the other project and reset the project to get work. I changed to Boinc ver 6.6.20 and Catalyst 9.5 and that seem to run better as long as I turned the screensaver off and the power saver option for the monitor. But when the screensaver was on and it crashed I got the blue screen and it restarted when I was using 9.6 MW crashed and boinc had to be restarted. When I change to 6.6.20 I should have run it with Catalyst 9.6 for a couple of days before changing to Catalyst 9.5 instead changing them together. I changed the app info cmd line several times it’s now <cmdline>n1 w1.1</cmdline> and today I change <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus> to 1 from .1 and added cc_config.xlm file and set the number of CPUs to 9. From what I have read on the message boards and the changes I have made, I think it is as stable as it is going to get for right now.

You should really set the avg_ncpus value higher. That way a lot less WUs are loaded and also the time-out issue is no longer present. If you loose one or two tasks is not much of an issue with a Core i7 because of the hyperthreading. And if you really want to avoid it use the cc_config.xml to raise the number of CPUs the BOINC client sees. If you set it to 9 and adjust your MW resource share to 11.1% (1/9) you can more or less reserve one of the 9 CPUs for MW and can afford a lot higher avg_ncpus values (you can even set it to 1.0). At least if you reset the debts it works quite well here.

But generally speaking the scheduler of the BOINC client is quite a mess in my opinion. The features of the newer clients (6.x.xx) like fractional CPU allocation are simply not working as they should.

Where is the cc_config.xml located. I'm running windows7, have change to Boinc 6.6.20 and catalyst to 9.5 from 9.6. It is running better but still tweaking.

I just installed the ATI GPU app 0.19f. This is my first GPU app and I love it. My system contains i7 core (920) processor, Windows 7 RC, 6 GB of memory, the graphics card is a PowerColor HD 4850 with 1GB of GDDR3 memory and using Catalyst 9.6 the driver is 8.62. Boinc ver 6.6.36

I run 7 projects and 8 task are always running, now that I install the GPU app it is 8 task plus the MW GPU tasks. My question is starting the GPU app, I have to wait for one of the 8 task to finish before it sees the GPU app or suspend an task for a few seconds and then it sees the GPU app. Is there any way to tell BOINC when MW downloads a task to start using the GPU app.

I am having some problems it froze a couple time and then I need to exit Boinc an restart it and all is well. The screen will go blank for a second and than I know it froze. I turned off the screen saver and stop changing the desktop display automatically. This helped some but do you think it is the driver and if so what other drivers work with windows 7.
