I noticed that, prior to the outages, I was crunching short running WU's only...

I only have a view on the half hour prior to the outage of 3h40 and at that time I was in bed, so no live view...

And no, I don't have a script deleting longer, normal WU's.

Well, Everyone has his right to 15 mins. of disgrace...

And sending squick WU's to CPU and long WU's to GPU won't solve the problem. GPU systems present themselves as CPU only systems and voilà, there you go. Didn't GPU crunching took of for milkyway this way ?

Possible solution : Take an abort counter per user, that is reset on a daily basis to the queue length. Every abortion decreases the counter, every result resturned increases the counter. Counter below 0 = No WU ...

If I remind it correctly GPUGrid uses a similar technique...

Is this workable / realistic ?

Other solution, every infriction reported and valid = 1 week ban.

Cons : admin overhead and snitching culture ...

I am afraid that it is technically quiet difficult to rectify this abuse. Honnestly, in that case I won't mind deviding the amount of credit given by these WU's by 5 to 7.

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

You took the words from my mouth...

Just got the whole shebang running more or less stable after internet connectivity issues, router reflash, boinc going beserk and total reset of the home network... Oh yes, i forgot the power spike yesterday that made at least 2 UPSes tipping over (and down).

That's why most Collatz crunchers maintain a cache of 1 day or so, to cover hickups in the processing... (usually after a weekend there's some catching up with pending WU's)

Let's hope Collatz doesn't crash with all the extra crunchers over there!

It crossed my mind too...

Did something like that not happen 2 weekends ago ?

Makes you realize the kind of stress a strong cruncher community can induce on project servers...

Yup, that's our retribution for trashing the server .... ;o)

I noticed the GPU-usage went down with 25% (running @75%). I guess as a security measure for not crashing the server anymore ?
