I've used that for a number of years. It's how I monitor my home machines when I'm at work (and vice versa)
It's a pity it hasn't been developed recently

Yeah I think I could do a bit of work on it as it appears unusable on the android browser and hence defeats its purpose.

Works perfectly in a desktop browser though

The network API is bust... I'm trying to fi(u)x it ;)

Yeeeee Haaaa - got it working !

The code wasn't borked after all, lots of shenanigans with gui_rpc_auth.cfg and remote_hosts.cfg until I finally got it working by removing the remote rpc key.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/addons.php

It's pretty dated code now but works great for localhost.

I've just installed BoincPHP5-GUI and am playing with it

It's a simple web interface to boinc manager on local and remote machines.

Seems much easier to use than messing around with VNC ;)

Thanks Brickhead that's very useful information, very nice results too.

EDIT :

OK I went to 1ghz with ease on the VF1000. Load temps 50C :) :)

WU time = 177 seconds. Think I'll stop here and stick with this as a 24/7 stable

A little update on the HD4770

I decided to crossflash to the Asus TOP BIOS and applied a bump to vGPU. Overclocked straight to 935Mhz without even bating an eyelid.

70C on the stock fan at 100%. I didn't want to be greedy on the clock as I have the VF1000 heat sink fan to apply ;)

The result 1 WU churned out in 190 seconds.

I think 1ghz on this card is going to be very easy.

Hi,

Thought I'd put up some card stats as there are many here who are covertly using these cards in their arsenal.

Firstly I'll start with my favorite budget killer the 4830. This is an amazing card and is 'still' a high ranking best bang per buck card. (No more than £45 used)

HD4830

Out of the box the card clocks in at 575/900 The Sapphire stock cooler gets me to 730/950 without mods which is a 25% gain, something not to sneezed at.

For gaming I found these clocks unstable but perfect for Milkyway.

Typical WU runtime

    Stock (575/900) ~ 300 seconds
    OC (730/950) ~ 240 seconds

Pros : Impressive Overclock

Cons : Temperatures and Power Consumption is relatively high

HD4770

I bought this yesterday on the premise that it would become my new budget cruncher.

Typical WU runtime

    Stock (750/800) ~ 240 seconds
    OC (850/800) ~ 207 seconds

Pros : There's a whirl of activity on the Xtemesystems forum with regards to this card where reference based 4770s can be crossflashed to an Asus TOP Bios enabling for Vcore increases with overclocking results in the region of 1ghz+ (33% gain). Power consumption is excellent.

Cons : Not a great out of the box overclock (13%), I was expecting to get it close to a HD4870 but it falls. Noisy reference fan, I run mine at 77%->62C, running the fan higher doesn't seem to aid cooling.

The others HD4850/HD4870

I don't have any hard and ready stats for these cards, as I don't own one. I hazard a guess that they should range from 170s for an overclocked HD4870 right down to 240s for a HD4850 at stock. Please share your results ;)

Overclocking the 4770

Looks like I'll take the plunge and see if I can crossflash the card and break through the 200s barrier. I also have a VF1000 which will partner the card nicely :) We'll see

Best Bang per Buck ?

I was hoping that the HD4770 would give me HD4870 at half the power consumption. Afraid I was wrong, so potentially the 4870 is best bang per buck as they can be picked up for the same price(used) as a 4770(new)

Thanks for reading and please post your results, or we should collate them all in a new thread for reference

Yeah VNC and Vista's anal UAC don't play ball. Have you considered an RDP client instead ?

Thank you everyone.

Got it working with 9.11/0.20b (must say that 0.20b is *very* nice - 99% gpu load/low cpu load too).

BTW Is there a work around to getting this working as service ? Running in usermode is not very practical

Many thanks again

I don't think Boinc will see the GPU as a service install.

Sorry I don't understand ?(!) Can someone confirm this ? I had it running perfectly on win32/0.19f as a service *confused*

Hi,

Yes it's a service (stop, apply new app_info, restart but no joy)... I've done this before, same procedure with the exception of copying the cal dlls as per the instructions.

Hi,

Hope everyone is well and happy with a good stash of work units.

For myself I've run into a brick wall and am having difficulty getting Win64_0.20b_ati.zip to play ball.

I've copied the atixxxx.dlls but boinc(6.10.18) still tells me that it can't find any GPUs

Any ideas or is Catalyst 9.11 a no go area ?

Much obliged

I have a Asus P5k with 1 PCIx16 and 1 PCIx4
Can i use it with a 4870 and a 4850?
Will it be faster with 2 PCIx16 or 2 PCIx8?

Hi,

I have the same board, don't worry about the bandwidth as you are using the GPU only. Overall you won't see any performance benefit for switching to 2x16x, although you will if you're gaming.

If anything the board is perfect as you're not wasting money for the dual 16x premium.

Just put you 4870 and 4850 in without crossfire and you'll be good to go.

Happy crunching

Totally agree, Gas.

Looking around, even the Musashi and Zalman after market coolers work on the same principle. ie blow onto the GPU with secondary cooling hitting the RAM chips.

Debatable whether this is PCB design flaw ... I'll stop right there !

Probably would be better to discuss this in it's own thread.

---
120,000 credits later my CPU is at 38C whereas my mobo is at 52C. That in my view is crazy !

Had the WU torrent not stopped a couple of months back - I would have definitely water cooled the cards but I get the feeling that even that would not reduce my mobo temps.

Cheers

Yep the 4830's cheap cooler does not exhaust the hot air but instead blows it all around the case which in turn messes up the air flow.

Side of the case is off now and the motherboard temp has dropped 6 degrees :-o

Thanks again for your time and patience
