1) Message boards : Number crunching : New App status (Message 5269)

What!!??

The only comment I read from project principals stated that the increased runtime for the new work was to:

1.) Take traffic load off the backend servers so they don't grind to halt from an operational POV on a regular basis (good for participants).

2.) Allows for greater precision in the science result output (good for the project from a basic science POV).

Personally, I can't ever remember seeing the participants asking for longer, 'tougher' work on any project (at least the ones I run and/or follow).

PS: Since it seems other people are changing their Nicks to Crunch3r or something along those lines like you, Kevint, and maybe others, so I think I'll change mine to Crunch3r too, that way we can all post as Crunch3r & nobody will know who's posting what ... sounds good to me anyway ... :)

I'm keeping mine as Misfit because I'm too cool for any other name.

At last....the first intelligent statment in this whole sorry thread. Congrats Misfit!....:) Rog.

@Conan
[quote]From your posting it appears that you have adopted the "Royal 'We'" (as used by the Queen of England/Britian "We are not amused"), and are speaking for all.

"We" should be replaced by "I", as in I take exception, I certainly don't and I note, this then shows the comment came from you and not others.[quote]

LOL...Hardly the 'Royal We'. Surely you give us too much credit! (Maybe not a good phrase to use under the circumstances?) As our account name hopefully suggests, two people are involved, no more, no less....:)....Cheers, Rog.(Maybe I should add Annelies' name too??)

Thanks for taking the 'bull' by the horns, Travis. We take exception to statements saying 'most' people support the Cruncher. We certainly don't and appreciate your remedial action. We note with great interest that the most extreme negative comments about this are from members of C's team....funny that!
You have shown great patience answering some of these provocative statements and you have our respect for that. Looking forward to the next phase....Rog.

How hard is it to purge a database when you know that all the wu's start with the same numbers ??

Well, Travis did say he was having trouble accessing the database at all.

It must be very tricky as MW isn't the only project that has had trouble purging their db of rogue WUs.. :( ....

Thanks for the update, Travis. You guys do a great job communicating. It's appreciated.....Cheers, Rog.

Since Windows WUs error out quickly, rather than taking many hours to get nowhere as they do on Linux, I've enabled Work Fetch on 2 of my boxes to help clear them out. Apart from lost credit, I'm hoping there won't be any problems.

You see, I don't only crunch for credits...

Rod

Good idea, Rod. We have added the rest of our Win machines to the fray....Cheers, Rog.

I had a couple of requests that said there was no work around the time of Astro's post, but it cleared up soon after.

Me too ...

But still, I dropped my share to 50 vice 100 ...

And it is looking good that I will be caught up on NQueens sometime tomorrow (late?) and can start concentrating on the next project on my "catch-up" list ...

Of course, it is going to be getting harder to catch up as the targets are higher ...

Of course, if it was easy, anyone could play ...

An off topic personal comment if I may.....Paul, it's good to have you back on 'BOINC' projects again. Us 'old timers' certainly remember the tremendous contribution you made with the Wiki etc. C'est bon!.....Cheers, Rog.

No work - no fun. No fun - no users in longterm...
And no word from Travis or other who knows, could know or should know, what's going (or not going) on.

Greetings, Groundhog

Right-on, Groundhog! A little communication would do wonders to calm the savage Cats supporting this project.....please throw us a crumb of info (or cat-nip as the case may be. WUs would be better though)

Yes, thanks Travis. We Newbies to this project were not aware of the previous discussions. We'll give MW@H the highest priority because of its dynamic requirements.....I wish we could give you 100% but we must keep a backup project going (the beauty of BOINC) until things settle down a little..:)..Cheers, Rog.
