Posted 21 Feb 2024 by Kevin Roux Post: Hello everyone, I am working on getting a new version of our code up on the server. This new version will allow us to fit orbits on top of the other parameters we have already been fitting. There seems to be a slight issue right now with downloading the new version and I am working on fixing the issue. Thank you, Kevin |

(Message 76805)
Posted 24 Jan 2024 by Kevin Roux Post: Hello everyone, Update I've been working on trying to fix some of the recent issues with the server. Here is what I have done to solve them: - Cancelled all Separation WUs that were still creating tasks such that now the "Ready to send" tasks match (hopefully this is the last of the Separation WU's that were still creating tasks) - Set all validated tasks that had 0 credits to "inconclusive" and set the WU to need validation so that tasks are made to validate the 0 credit task and assign them credit after validation - Cancelled all with unsent tasks to lower the "Ready to send" number (I will be keeping the WU generator off until the numbers are lower so that this number continues to go down and tasks for validation get sent out) I will keep watching the numbers and some of my own inconclusive tasks in order to make sure that these fixes worked. Please let me know if these fixes are working or not working for you. Announcement - Having done this, I will be running another server maintenance on 29 Jan 2024 at 15:00:00 UTC. Again, this should only be for a few hours at the maximum. Question - I do not see the PHP warnings anymore on the result pages. Is this still an issue that people are seeing? Please let me know if it is so I can take a look at it. Working on - finishing testing on new binary with orbit fitting - fixing the cause for runaway task generation Thank you, Kevin |

Posted 18 Jan 2024 by Kevin Roux Post: Hello everyone, I will be running some server maintenance on 22 Jan 2024 at 15:00:00 UTC. The server should only be down for 2-3 hours. I will post an update when the server is backup. Updated on the server: - Server should be running faster now Working on: - WU waiting for assimilation and validation - Reducing the number of "Ready to send" WU - PHP warnings on result page - testing new binary with orbit fitting Best, Kevin |

Posted 18 Jan 2024 by Kevin Roux Post: I guess you need to cancel separation tasks "waiting for assimilation" now, so they can finally be removed from our results lists. I am not sure why 3 million workunits were generated. The cap was set pretty low to 1000 (now 10,000) but it just ignored that which I still haven't found the reason why. I will try to go in and remove/cancel these workunits so validations can be done. |

Commenting on Recent Issues with the server
(Message 76704)
Posted 14 Dec 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: Hello everyone, Thank you for the responses. Now that classes are out, I can put more time into implementing some of the changes you have requested. Namely: - admin only update thread (not easily done and I will have to change the code in order to make this work unless someone knows of an easy way to do this) - getting rid of the PHP warnings that are coming up in the WU pages (I will be able to do this after I make sure the warnings are not affecting anything) - getting Mac support - adding the special user badge for those that had it before As for GPU support, there were some talks about users maybe looking into getting that supported again. The current code is outdated and not any faster than the CPU code. Supporting this code on our end is not really possible at the moment so there are no plans as of now to get GPU support for N-body. A new version of the N-body code is in the process of being tested. We hope to be able to release this new code early next year after testing is concluded. Let me know if there are any other changes or improvements I could make with the project. Thank you, Kevin |

Thread to report issues after server migration
(Message 76680)
Posted 4 Dec 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: Check not completed : So these warnings don't seem to be affecting actually downloading/running WU's. I had WU's that also had these warnings but they were credited. I think there was a period when the workunit generator might have made bad WU's. These should pass over as they get crunched. Has anyone with this warning found otherwise? I will keep the warnings up for now but will remove the warnings after I figure out why exactly this is happening. |

WUs completed from "-new" URL
(Message 76669)
Posted 30 Nov 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: Thanks for that, Is this still happening for you? Or are you now able to crunch? The initial errors the came through about a week ago I am not sure why they did not appear when the migration happened. I didn't realize the recent DNS change would cause the errors it did which is way there was no heads up on the necessary DNS change to fix the errors mentioned above. This just come down to me being very new with dealing with servers and BOINC so I apologize for the confusion and frustration. |

Migrating MilkyWay@home to a New Server
(Message 76667)
Posted 30 Nov 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: I was just now able to upload about 250 WU's. And a lot of them had credits. A lot were also _0 tasks, so not expecting any wingman activity for a while. But I am getting this funkiness: Another user also noted this issue. " These problems occur only when certain "older" tasks are shown in the selected table. E.g. tasks which were downloaded at 29 Nov 2023, 18:23:26 UTC are bad, tasks which were downloaded at 29 Nov 2023, 21:13:27 UTC are good." is what xii5ku noted. I think this has to do with when I deleted the binaries from the database and put them back up with the correct URL. Is this causing issues with WU's? |

Thread to report issues after server migration
(Message 76664)
Posted 30 Nov 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: My results tables on the MW@H web server show "v0.00" in the Application column now. I would have expected "Milkyway@home N-Body Simulation v1.83 (mt) x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" there, or something like that. This might have happened when I removed the 1.83 binaries from the database and put them back in so they would be linked with milkyway and not milkyway-new. |

Migrating MilkyWay@home to a New Server
(Message 76661)
Posted 29 Nov 2023 by Kevin Roux Post: So how do we return completed work now that the -new address which is where the 'new' client is pointing too? If we remove and reattach all of our work will be lost. I am now able to crunch WU's on my BOINC client. I believe the changes have propagated. |
