Last night I noticed my PC auto-updated the nvidia graphics drivers via Microsoft update back to Nvidia drivers 306.97 and everything is still working.

Running GPU-Z shows ticks for opencl and PhysX for 306.97 now whereas before it did not.

Anyway as long as it works that is great.

I check my account on Milyway and surprised to see so many workunits there for the PC however in BOINC magaer there are no work units at all?

I have detached from Milkyway and then rebooted. Reattached Milkyway and the issue is still there.

I was running the latest Nvidia drivers 306.97, so I downgraded to 301.42 and rebooted and now I have all working.

Running GPU-Z show no ticks for opencl and PhysX for 306.97 but after downgrade to 301.42 it shows a tick in opencl and PhysX

So it looks like the 306.97 driver upgrade a few weeks back loses some functionality in at least the GT520

Thanks

Hi,

Been using my GT520 for over 6 months to crunch MW GPU wu however over the last few weeks the GPU is no longer doing wu's. Has there been a change in the code or could I have a problem somewhere? The gt520 works fine in games etc.

4) Message boards : Number crunching : Do the WU get less credits now since thanksgiving crash (Message 53405)
Posted 24 Feb 2012 by Profile Sean Arrowsmith
Post:
Thanks, but could you help me understand a bit more where to find the credits per work unit from.

I have had a look in my MW account under one of my PC's that runs 24/7 and look at the tasks. I noticed several MilkyWay@Home N-Body Simulation v0.80 (mt) tasks and they on average ran for..
Run Time 34secs
CPU Time 44secs

and I got an average of 0.73 credits. See link below, I am host 299165

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=88896154

So from this data I calculate as you say....

86400 secs per day divide by 44 (is it 44 or would it be 34?) = 1963

Then multply 1963 by credits per work unit which is 0.73 = 1432 RAC

OK, so it my max RAC for my host 299165 is 1432 but it's actual RAC is 749.

So for host 299165 it's RAC before the Thanksgiving crash was at 1396, after the crash it dropped to 615 and then it slowly built up to 1226 by 11 December when the Server was replaced then the RAC dropped down to 425 and since then it has only managed to creep up to 749 over the last 7 weeks.

This PC is on 24/7 and does nothing apart from MW cruching. It is a 32but Win7 PC on a Core Duo T2080 @ 1.73Ghz

So you can see why I am asking about the RAC dropping that or my PC is shagged :-)

Hi,

I am asking the question about the credits that are issue to WU sice November Crash

Before the November crash I was stable at about 32,000 RAC, then after the thanksgiving crash it dropped directly to 18,000 and I slowly worked up to 28,000 and then there was the downtime for the new server and upon completion I had dropped down to 13,000 and so far I have climbed back up but only to 24,000 and it's dropping again.

My PC's doing the crunching are still on for the same time periods as before the november crash but I just can not seem to crunch and get the same RAC.

Do the WU now collect a smaller credit for completion.

Thanks, after a bit of searching I found these OPTI apps on your site.

I did notice a mistake with the downloaded Win64bit CPU files, in the app_info for the CPU version you are missing a < from the ending tag of name for the first opti app. see below. Upon running BOINC it complained about the missing app and delete it, upon placing the < into the file makes it work.

New features:
- Faster CPU calculations because of SSE2 intrinsics from Crunch3r. This should get a bit faster later when I get to some other stuff.

- The binaries now include the different SSE levels for the critical function (e.g. x87/SSE2/SSE3) all in one, and will use the appropriate one for the detected CPU's capabilities, so you don't need any special __sse2 version or anything. The problems on systems without SSE2 which happened sometimes for the GPU applications should also be fixed.

- Checkpointing for GPUs for both OpenCL/Nvidia and ATI/AMD for CAL. It will checkpoint no more frequently than after at least 10% progress, so it might not checkpoint as frequently as your settings specify if you have a particularly slow GPU. GPU checkpointing is a bit slow when it does happen, so if you don't want it, you can disable it with the flag --gpu-disable-checkpointing.

- The Nvidia OpenCL platform should now always be used avoiding issues if you had both AMD's and Nvidia's installed

- More reliable chunking for different GPUs. I didn't play with the time estimates so much, but I think the actual run times should now be closer to the estimates. There should also be fewer cases where a GPU will end up using the slowest possible work size option. I'll probably have to fiddle with this some more if people still aren't happy with the lag.

- Work around for a Catalyst driver problem where sometimes the GPU was reported as 0 Mhz, resulting in much more lag which I think was some peoples' problem.

- New flag that some people requested: --process-priority (-b). On Windows this is 0 (lowest) - 4 (highest) for overriding the process priority. On Linux this is the nice value.

- CAL specific: Removed --responsiveness-factor flag. Use --gpu-target-frequency or --non-responsive instead depending on what you want to do.

- Actually updated the 32-bit OS X application

- In the event of a crash on Windows, you should no longer be bothered with useless crash dialogs

I have jut restarted MW after the last Optimized apps were dropped arounf April time.

I have just reattached to MW and using the stock apps on a Win7 64bit with GTX460

Are the stock apps optimised versions or are there going to be NEW optimized version coming soon especially for CUDA

I want to run 2 WU on my GTX460, the current stock app is only running one WU on the GTX460, can some one provide an app_info.xml file for the stock apps so I can modify the CUDA count to allow 2 WU

Thanks

That will be great to get a decent CPU app, not run a single MW WU since my PC upgrades to GTX460's coincided with the project upgrade and the Nvidia opti apps disappeared.

Do you know where the latest Intel CPU Optimised apps are now as the only sticky for Optimised apps now just point to Win32/64 ATI GPU only and I don't have an ATI card.

Hi,

I have noticed that since 8th April my RAC on Milkyway clients has dropped drastically, one client used to run about and RAC of 600 and now is currently at 75, another which was at 500 is now at 37 (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=151848).

These clients have not had their opt apps changed so why the decrease?

It started for me on the 15th March when my RAC dropped 30% overnight. I thought it was a problem with my PC's. I even altered the project split to give Milkyway more cruch time from 50% to 75% over SETI and my Milkyway RAC still kept dropping.

I hope it starts to turn around soon.

The RS is 80% Milkyway, 20%SETI

I have just checked my other few clients and they are in the same position of just having SETI work and no Milkyway WU.

One of the clients had run out 4 days ago of Milkyway WU but was still just collecting SETI WU as early as 1 hour ago.

Suspending SETI and updating Milkyway got me 6 new WU and then resumed SETI.
