bypassing server set cache limits
(Message 46367)
Posted 26 Feb 2011 by Farscape Post: Thank you MrS (Extra Terrestrial Apes) for summarizing. Your idea makes far more sense than the current limit of 6 work units per (cpu) core. I have the exact problem you described. Because of the physical size of the 5970, the only computer case that the monster would fit into has a single core processor (old MB) allowing only 6 work units at a time. With a dual GPU video card - unless everything works perfectly at MW - I run out of WUs in +/- 9 minutes..... I have set DNETC as my backup project on the machine and most days it does more DNETC work than MW! I think your idea is great! I also vote for you for president!!! |

Posted 7 May 2010 by Farscape Post: Based on what is being discussed, I will be interested to see what happens after I install an ASUS RampageII mobo w/3 slots and 3 Sapphire 5870s in an Antec 902 case (has 8 expansion slots on back). So far with 2 5870s I have not exceeded 75C on either card and most times the bottom card is only 5C cooler than the top card..... They are currently in an Antec 300 case - lots of airflow with all the fans. I think the key is that these cards pick up air IN the case but exhaust OUTSIDE the case - it can't hurt! |

Posted 11 Jan 2010 by Farscape Post: No - it won't get any work with the optimized app (w/app info file) in place - that has remained constant on the 3 machines here at the house. I haven't tried adding the app info file and modifying it to work with the new server app but I will be.... |

Server down twice today??
(Message 35481)
Posted 11 Jan 2010 by Farscape Post: I have uninstalled the optimized MW and downloaded the server version. There is no app file so I can't make the wus run the way my machine produces the best results. My original command line was >n2 p3 b-1< 2 wus per GPU / high priority / no release of CPU I would like the flexibility to set these same parameters - is there an app info file that will work with the server app? |

(Message 35476)
Posted 11 Jan 2010 by Farscape Post: I read your post earlier - I guess I am a bit resistant to losing ANY CPU crunch time to MW - I have MW for my GPUs and AQUA which is a multithreading CPU project. Unless AQUA has all 4 (or 8) cores pretty much to itself, it just will not crunch. I guess I have no real choice in the matter which stinks! |

Midgrade GeForce Cards - what temps OK running MW CUDA
(Message 33285)
Posted 15 Nov 2009 by Farscape Post: 2 PNY 9600GSO cards in one machine - they run (without any aftermarket software for fan control) between 72-85 C. EVGA has a program called Precision that allows you to monitor (real time) fan speed , GPU core clock, etc. I usually load this and keep the GPUs around 65-70 C. (SETI) 2 EVGA 9800GTX+ cards - stock temps are 80-90 C - set fan speed to keep GPUs in the 65-75 C range. (GPU Grid and SETI) 4 EVGA GTX280 cards - stock temps are 80-90 C - set fan speed to keep GPUs in the 65-75 C range. (GPU Grid and Milkyway) For comparison: 2 Visiontek (ATI) 4870x2 - 80-90C stock 70-75 with CCC 2 Visiontek (ATI) 4870 (512mb) - 80-90C stock 70-75 with CCC 1 Saphire (ATI) 4870 (1024mb) - 80-90C stock 70-75 with CCC |
