44) Message boards : Number crunching : Project down (Message 9970) Posted 7 Feb 2009 by Cappy [Team Musketeers] Post: heh you would think what ever was chewing up all those cpu cycles would show up in the processes tab..... hell i dont even know how a server serves do they even have a task manager???? lol im sure they do being you have to have a OS. i can build them like crazy but couldnt tell ya how they work lol :P :P anyway i know when my machines slow down thats the first place i go is to the task manager a see if something is hoging up all the cpu %'tages. have had a few rogue programs back when do this and would have never known if i didnt check my task man. :P not saying you havent already just talking out my a$$ because i have nothing to do right now :P :P hint,hint :)

(Message 9954) Posted 7 Feb 2009 by Cappy [Team Musketeers] Post: give them alittle more time to get all their ducks back in a row It kinda seems that they forgot to feed the ducks. ya well lol thats what happens when ya dont feed them :P they go look for food somewheres else :P so they are having to go round them back up. same as crunchers if they cant get fed here they will get food from another project but sooner or later they will return same as the credit returning back to what it was,,, i just wana see my machines downloading some MW wu's then after thats fixed they can adjust the credit back to where it was before the BIG CRASH !!!!!

The credits have taken a dive again and I haven't seen a change in the time it takes to complete the work unit using the MW@Home stock application. What a pitty, I could understand if the time to completion had dropped the proportionally, but it hasn't. Will devote more assets to GPU@home. could this be due to losing the database??? i mean if they lost almost everything wouldnt that be changes made to the credit granting??? maybe their backup was done a week ago and the resent changes were lost???? hell the project still aint back on track yet so i would say give them alittle more time to get all their ducks back in a row and im sure the credit changes will get corrected :) am i close???? i duno just gettin tired of micro-managing my machines to keep room open for MW when it comes back online if it ever does :P :P would be nice to know if its gona be today or tomarro or next week so we all can go work on something else,, know how much work we can download from another project so were able to clear our cashes for MW's return to life :)

Just because there is a disagreement does not make anyone in the discussion a troll. Agreed. Would be nice if we could tone down the 'rant' a bit and discuss the options. THERE is no options with D.A.'s plan, if he when he writes it into the code thats it, HE IS IN CONTROKL OF THE CREDIT HANDED OUT ON EVERY PROJECT! not just SETI every project that uses BOINC as its BASE. the project admins for said project will no longer be in control of their credit system, will no longer be able to reward THEIR VOLUNTEERS for work done. the DICTATORSHIP will control what ya get and how ya get it and if they want just KEEP LOWERING the credit till its GONE all together. the CREDIT SYSTEM hassnt taken away SETI's VOLUNTEERS, SETI has PUSHED them out the door and dont even know it, check my stats for SETI,, havent realy crunched it in a year and a half maybe longer. prolly never will again, with people like this running it why would ya, they dont care about you, you are FREE LABOR and nothing more to them, if you did mean something to them CREDIT WOULD BE THE LAST THING ON THEIR MINDS THE ONLY THING YOU GET BACK from them, lol hell you dont even know if anything was done last month for them do ya,,, whens the LAST time you seen a report??? was anything found??? only thing they can say is YOU GETTING TO MUCH CREDIT FOR VOLUINTEERING YOUR TIME AND MONEY TO US .. lol how frakked up does that sound lol :P :P im DONE made my point and they know it thats why o got that big what was it 5 word comeback lol. laterz peoples and DO NOT LET THIS DICTATORSHIP TAKE OVER. this is a DC COMMUNITY not IRAQ !!!!!

SETI prolly has 75% of all the crunching power in the DC community. and the key word is volunteers, we dont work for these projects we volunteer our time and money. could you imagin SET@home trying to crunch all their data by themselves?? what we the volunteers do in a day would take them years on their own??? keep frakin with the ONLY thing we get for VOLUNTERRING our time and machines. 1 man should not have control over every projects credit, only the project admin's for said projects should have that control NOT 1 MAN !!!!! thats called a DICTATORSHIP PEOPLE !!!!!!!

SETI and BOINC founder has made some BAD choices already and thats why SETI has suffered, this is just one more that will put the nail in the coffin.... go ahead make this happen let the few make the choices for the many and i totaly believe that the MANY will show you what they think of the few. take our right, the project admin's rights to choose, take our freedom away and start the DICTATORSHIP that will end BOINC all together. SETI thinks they have lost volenteers now,,, YOU AINT SEEN NOTHING YET. you guys are making this personal, your messing with our rights to choose bad move on your parts IMO.

I really don't understand how this is giving S@H a credit advantage. lol this has nothing to do with leveling the playing field, this has to do with well i wont name names but lowering every other projects credits to try to gain back what seti has lost all on their own. people have tried to get other projects to lower their credit with SETI hoping it would gain back their VOLUNTEERS but being that hasnt work the maker of the BOINC client has firgured out a way of making his own DICTATORSHIP!!!!! were the credit granted will be FORCED APON the project that wont comply to THEIR way of thinking. each project will no longer be able to grant the credit they think is fair for the work being done, the BOINC client will now TELL THEM what it thinks their project is worth. in my eyes this is Bs. What the hell gives the creator of BOINC the right to determine what a project can give out as far as credit for work done???? what gives him the right to put a noose around these other project admins neck and force them to comply??? its spelt out in 1 word Dictatorship!!!!!! well there goes freadom of speech,, freedom of choice, projects freedom to grant THEIR volunteers the credit they think their worth.

I'm staying, and so is my overclocked CPU. heh i had another machine in the works which i was building to bring in on this also :) a Q9450 which a buddy of mine is gone build for me... i hope you guys correct this crazy mistake before its finished i really wanted to break it in here :) if not ABC will work just as well i guess :) :) now if they will only release the damn chip lol,,, it sucks to have the $$$$$ and have to wait lol.. passed up so many fantastic QUAD deals so far it hurts lol. Just curious Cappy, what do you think the $$$ will be to have it built, that will be a screamer. my cost about $750 for the pross, MB and DDR3 mem.. the rest my bud is gona toss in for nothing :) he wants to see what its gona do also :P :P

59) Message boards : Number crunching : updated granted credit (Message 2611) Posted 24 Mar 2008 by Cappy [Team Musketeers] Post: one other thing,, alot of the biotchin is becasue alot of us belong to TEAMS which inturn EVERY CREDIT COUNTS. no we dont crunch all the TOP GRANTING PROJECTS but we do like to have a few to keep that daily production up... my team SETI.USA is going to break the 1 Billion mark here hopefully by mid April , YES I SAID 1 BILLION COMBINED CREDITS !!! now that isnt all high granting credit projects, if you look we are involved with just about every single project out there. for alot of us its a Compitition, Braging rights... we dont get paid for doing this, we do it becasue we enjoy it, we enjoy the Compitiion... ( excuse my spelling 1 to many brewski's lol and i dont care ) but anyway yes the credits do mean alot to some of us that compete in almost all the projects out there. i hope that explains alot of it.
60) Message boards : Number crunching : updated granted credit (Message 2602) Posted 23 Mar 2008 by Cappy [Team Musketeers] Post: If the whole purpose is to level credits among projects i'd say we're a bit lower than Spinhenge now... btw, don't take seti optimized into account for that cuz seti is absolutely not suited for comparing credits(not even the optimized one) ... believe me i know what i'm talking about :) Yes buddy I am much aware of you from my Seti days but I am sure you were not aware of me ;) Seti-opty because that seems to be the target amongst projects that care....so that "should be" middle of the road target....errr not saying you can't be higher ;) you know what the problem with Seti@Home is???? they frakked their project up peroid.... millions of outages, the dropped their granted credits into the dumpster,, ok which inturn they lost ALOT of their follwing ( crunchers ) now DA starts to DEMAND that everyone else LOWER their credits to maych SETI,,, if you have to ask why then well you better start using your noodle.... If everyone lowers their credits to match SETI or even lower then SETI well then SETI starts to look good again.... 1+1 people. DA has been planing this out for awhile ill bet and or its the ONLY way he can get that FOLLOWING back. i dont know it seems very clear to me whats going on. WoW ty for letting me get that off my chest :) but if you sit back and think about what ive said,, it all starts to make sence. maybe not for everyone but it does for me :) :)
