Ahh, I think I know what it is, I think they load up weeks or months worth of tasks due to not having proper preferences. I'm speaking specifically about "minimum work buffer". Is 0.00 equal infinity on that? Is there a hard cap on lets say 7 days or can un-knowing people put 999999?

I thought there was a limit of 40 WU per system.

Not going to mess with it now, just going to leave it alone and not break it.

Good thinking. Never mess with a stable system.

The brand new pheasant hunting season is about to start so off we go...

It is now time for another run of this popular past-time.

•Post in this thread, anything coherent with legitimate words.

•Stay within the message board rules.

•Empty posts are invalid towards winning.

•You must wait for someone else to post before you can post again, any and all multiple posts are invalid towards winning.

•Have FUN.

Rules Subject to change at moderators discretion without notice

The winner will be the last person to have posted, when I have time to check the thread, after one of these events:

•A specific date and/or time occurs

•A specific number of posts have been made

•I get tired of whining about who is the winner :)

•An event I have chosen occurs (doesn't occur).

Sorry there are no physical prizes, only the satisfaction you played. :)

What is wrong with these MT units?

Or should I just abort them when I see it is gonna be long one?

My experience was that it was a bit of a gamble. I have seen them run for a very long time, and then validate, and run a long time just to error out. I got to the point where if they ran longer than a day I would just abort them, regardless of the estimated time to completion.

Is it OK to abort those that I cannot finish by the deadline?

Aborted WUs simply get sent out to other crunchers sooner than if they go past deadline. If you cannot crunch them, the sooner you abort them, then the sooner they will get completed.

I saw the funeral on my way home. It was miles long, lots of flashing lights. Very sad.

I've seen this before with another user. For now, just run Modified Fit WUs. Try a detach/reattach and see what happens then. Are running with an app_config file? If so, please post it. Also, can you downgrade to CCC 13.1? or another known good driver?

Posted 15 Aug 2014 by swiftmallard
Post:
If you look at the WU pages for your errors, you will see that none are successfully processed by anybody. All have the message: Too many errors (may have bug), this means the work unit itself is the issue. It happens. There is nothing to worry about, your disc space allocation is fine.

Post:
While it may be a longer work unit than other n-bodies in your cache, those time estimates are notoriously unreliable. Keep an eye on it, if it's taking too long, abort it. But it probably will be fine.
77) Message boards : Number crunching : Memory Leak (Message 62161)
Posted 13 Aug 2014 by swiftmallard
Post:
Modified Fit WUs have been running a long time and this is the first I've heard of a possible memory leak. Positives for Boinc processes we hear of with regularity, and all have been false so far. Exclude the Boinc directory and you'll be happier.
78) Message boards : Number crunching : Computation ERROR (Message 62142)
Posted 9 Aug 2014 by swiftmallard
Post:

Error loading Lua script 'astronomy_parameters.txt': [string "number_parameters: 4..."]:1: '<name>' expected near '4'
Error reading astronomy parameters from file 'astronomy_parameters.txt'

I suggest you try resetting the project. That should delete files like these from BOINC and cause it to redownload them from the project. Hope this helps.

These error messages are normal, disregard them. I do not know why the regular WUs would error out but the Modified Fit WUs complete and validate.

My first suggestion would be to only run Modified Fit work units until you can detach from the project then re-attach.

My second would be to do the detach/reattach. Then try running both WUs and we can go from there.
79) Message boards : Number crunching : Multithreaded opt out. (Message 62137)
Posted 8 Aug 2014 by swiftmallard
Post:
Okay, done. I had assumed that multithreading would be a project wide setting, and hence, was looking in the wrong place.

For the curious, I wanted to get out of mt because it waste significant resources - I hate to see the Windows Idle Process "running" when I have loads of work for other projects waiting on the same machine. I dumped LHC's T4T project for the same reason.

It doesn't really 'waste' them it just uses all your cpu cores for a single unit, making it crunch faster, than if it only used a single core and took much longer. But yes it does prevent your other cores from crunching other projects too. Although unless you have a cc_config file you could still end up crunching 4 MW units and none of the other projects units.

It is not really multi-thread opt out, rather n-body opt out. If the next version of n-body is not multi-threaded, you still won't get them.

Can some one explain in detail how to set this app-config?
Where is that file? (app_config.xml?) What is the path to the project?
Do I need set this in each project?

Thanks,

D

What is it you want the file to do?
