You solved the problem for me. Thank you kindly; it's appreciated.

Glad to help. That one's tripped me up more than once in the past. Happy crunching!

There are still a few people returning their BPL runs, but none of those should be going out anymore...

They are rare, but I'm still getting BPL's.

If you give it an hour or two it should flush them out of the queue and then you should be getting the new ones. Sorry, Boinc is a bit weird when you end a run.

Oh, sure, no problem. I should have figured that it wouldn't be as easy or quick as we'd like. Keep up the good work.

I took down the runs using the Broken Power Law option...

And I'm opting back in... :D Thanks for the quick response, Jack.

The error you are seeing will be resolved in the next release...For now, there is nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for the feedback, Jake. Is there any way of knowing when that's going to be? Just curious...

I just started running these n-body tasks, so I'm not familiar with them, in general. I know that it's a small sample size, but I'm running an error rate of 15%-20% overall (as of now, 8 errors in 43 tasks). All stderr output is similar to this:

<core_client_version>7.0.64</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
The system cannot find the drive specified.
(0xf) - exit code 15 (0xf)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
<search_application> milkyway_nbody 1.32 Windows x86_64 double OpenMP, Crlibm </search_application>
Using OpenMP 4 max threads on a system with 4 processors
<search_likelihood>1.#QNAN0000000000</search_likelihood>
Failed to calculate likelihood
21:45:13 (3196): called boinc_finish

A variety of hosts are involved, a mix of Win7-64, Linux, Intel, and AMD. All hosts with errors have returned valid results. It doesn't look like it, but are there any unusual RAM requirements? Any problems running n-body alongside GPU tasks that require a dedicated CPU or make significant use of one?

Excellent, Travis. Thanks! Very cool to see blue in Iceland, the northern reaches of Scandinavia, Mauritius (or Reunion?), Sri Lanka, Tasmania. Awesome.

I'm pretty sure I'm that blue dot in the mid-Atlantic coast of the US. No... No, not that one... No. A little to the north... No. More to the east... No... <sigh>

3. hosts with ATI GPUs aren't getting workunits...

I'm in that boat. My 5870 host got it's last WU at about 1950 UTC.

My 1090t/5870/Win7-64 host hasn't gotten any GPU WU's since earlier today at about 1616 UTC.

Same host has been getting WU's since about 2331 UTC -- they seem to be running fine. I made no changes to any preferences.

I'm trying to figure out what users aren't getting GPU workunits. Is it everyone? Or just some people with certain types of ATI cards?

My 1090t/5870/Win7-64 host hasn't gotten any GPU WU's since earlier today at about 1616 UTC.

thx for the quick answer!

Glad to help, Alexander... At least I hope I'm helping! :-)

Yes, you're right, my preferences are set tu use only 50% of cpu-time...

Be careful... If you are describing the "Use at most <xxx.x> % CPU time", that's a different preference than what mentioned in my last post.

Anyway, is there someting to read about that or is it simply a 'learning by doing'?

For me, it has been mostly "learning by doing" and reading posts in project forums (like this one). There's some interesting information about BOINC on Android at the Berkeley website. There's also a link that goes to a discussion about the impact of BOINC on Phones.

I installed native boinc on my nexus one hour ago. Now I see the progress bar color switching from green to yellow sometimes...

It sounds to me like your tasks are repeatedly suspending and resuming. I found this to be the case when I first started running it on my mobile phone.

Check your local preferences (Menu -> Manage Client -> Local preferences) and see if any of those could be causing the problem. When I set mine up, I believe the computing setting "While processor usage is less than..." was set at "0.0" That pretty much meant tasks never ran because the phone was almost always doing something.

You may have to adjust other settings to get the BOINC client to behave in such a way that's acceptable to you, especially temperature and battery usage. Good luck!

Cheers,

MarkR
