21) Message boards : Number crunching : No more GPU work units? (Message 58616)

How are things looking for June 10/2013? My machines are running out (or are out) of GPU WU's to crush. Any idea when there will be a resolve to this shortage?

Thanks!

Interesting. Thank you for all the information. What is your favourite "flavour" of Linux when purely crunching BOINC workunits?

If I remember correctly, they were all due on the 15th. I dunno, baffling. :P

Negative. 7.0.64 always. Strange. BOINC is like a Ferrari, when it runs, it's awesome! When it's broken and needs repair, it's a hella big deal. :P

This happened on one of my machines. I had 7-days worth of workunits ready to be crunched away, and when I logged into my machine, I found that every single one of them was "Aborted by Project". What exactly does this mean and why were they aborted???

I searched for this subject on the message boards under the 'Number Crunching' section and found no information.

Thanks

I had a great deal of errors on Rainbow using 13.1 and then each and all of the 13.xx drivers. I am now getting error free output using 12.8 (on a x64 Win 7).

Forum discussions indicated that AMD changed the OpenGL part of the driver on 13.1 and problems have since shown. I don't know if that is relevant.

It might be worthwhile downgrading to 12.8, but make sure all the bits that are left after the normal uninstall are removed before reinstalling.

Interesting! I was unaware. I will make the change to 12.8 on my main "computational error" machines and see what happens. Thank you John. :)

AMD is again changing their software to favor gamers and not crunchers, they are working on it but don't hold your breath! If you ever find a version that is stable and just works AND you are not a gamer, then don't upgrade unless you hear the new one is MUCH faster and has been tested by others with your configuration. I am still running version 11.9 on one of my pc's and it works here just fine.

I agree completely!! Updating GPU software/drivers is almost always in-favour of the gamer. 13.4 is currently on my "thou shall not pass" software list.

13.4 blows - nothing but problems for me on my end. 13.1 is excellent and I currently do not recommend updating to 13.4. I am, however, seeing a lot more computational errors using BOINC 7.0.64 and 13.1. Not sure what the deal is there..?

Running your 7950 @ 975 MHz - what's the voltage you're running in Linux compared to Windows? What are your GFLOPS now in comparison to Windows? I prefer a Windows OS as I remote into all my headless machines while emulating a basic VGA monitor to ensure the GPU's remain active.

That computer has been moved to another project and no longer updates to MilkyWay@Home. This morning, all seems well. :)

Occasionally a GPU work unit comes in on one of my dual GPU machines, it's crunched, uploaded and then nothing. Again, an 'Update' or 'Do network communication' does not download new GPU work units. Is MilkyWay@Home actually out of GPU work units for participants to process?

Some of my slower computers and their GPU's still have GPU work units to process, however my faster computers are all out - CPU work units only.

An 'Update' or 'Do network communication' does not remedy my lack of GPU work units to process. I checked the server status page and everything appears OK. If this is me, I'm not seeing it.

Thanks! :)
