I have had the same problem. MW does not yet have an application for Fermi. Older NVIDIA GPUs work, Fermis don't. They have been testing something a couple of weeks ago but haven't released it yet.

Hi Dave,

I have tried Collatz and DNETC on a GTX470 - no problem. Also tried GPUGRID a couple of weeks ago but had problems due to the GPU combination in my PC (low end on board CUDA device and the gtx470 don't work well together). A single Fermi should be ok, though.

I haven't tried Einstein with the gtx470 but from what I hear the Einstein guys where the only ones who got their CUDA app right from the beginning - no recompiles were necessary where Fermi was released. It just worked. Keep in mind, though, that the Einstein CUDA app is no very effective since they are only doing an FFT on th GPU. Everything else is still done on CPU. That's why it needs 1CPU/1GPU as Alexander already mentioned. There are several threads in the Einstein forum that discusses this subject.

Michael

Well, I by all my telescope equipment from Teleskopservice. They have an English page as well. I don't know how much they charge you for shipping, though.

I just had a brief look at the Orion Skyquest XT8 that you mentioned. If you want to hook it up to a laptop for auto-guiding, be sure to by a suitable mounting. Dobsonians are pratically useless for auto-guiding (well, at least there are no standard kits for them that I am aware of. You'd have to build the control and mechanics yourself).

An 8" Newton including a reasonable equatorial mounting is likely to bust your €500 limit. If you can live without auto-find and auto-guide and if you don't want to take any photographs a Dobson is quite OK.

Well it should but it doesn't. I have tried Collatz, Seti and GPUGRID. All WUs error the second they are started. The weired thing is that only the GPU tasks error. All CPU tasks are working fine.

This might be true for MilkyWay but for all other projects as well ?

Hi everybody.

I have been trying to get a NVIDIA GPU running on one of my diskless machines - so far without success. All WU error out the second they are started. The error message is:

Mon 07 Jun 2010 09:02:44 PM CEST	Milkyway@home	Starting task de_test_s11_3_274699_1275937017_0 using milkyway version 24

The machine in question is this. It's also happening with other (GPU) projects. Neither Collatz nor Seti nor GPUGRID are working - always the same error message.
The same has happened with the on-boards GPUs on my diskless machines.

The OS is a home-brew 64 bit LFS (CLFS 1.0).

Any ideas ?
