Two projects on one GPU?
(Message 69220)
Posted 2 Nov 2019 by sir sant Post: Why would you want to do that? If that would be possible, expect instability, issues and errors. Years ago it was possible to play games on a gpu that was running collatz, but i dont know if that is possible now. I never tried that out, i use dedicated gpus for boinc for many years now. It is possible to run 2 different projects on the same gpu, but the projects will have to take turns running on that gpu. |

Rx570 vs. gtx 1080, 1080ti, 2080

Posted 2 Oct 2019 by sir sant Post: I have just stayed away from ATI/AMD because of the challenge of installing the drivers and maintaining them. The Nvidia drivers just install and run with no issues ever. The ATI/AMD drivers are a complete fiasco as all the constant posts of issues posted attest in the forums. Amd 7970\r280x has 1000 GFLOPS of fp64, and used ones are cheap even on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/b/AMD-Radeon-R9-280X-Computer-Graphics-Cards/27386/bn_8951879 Just buy one with a good cooling. Perf per watt is still very good, regardless of 240w tdp. That is thanks to other gamingcards having they'r dp perf cut down, cause games dont really need it. My good old 7970 ghz edition is able to pull 500 000points per day without oc (3wu-s at a time). Radeon VII and Titan V have better perf and perf per watt, but for a hobby they are too expensive imo. About amd drivers, they are what they are, but they fave matured a great deal. Been mixed amd and nvidia (gpus in the same pc) user since the days of the allmighty 1gb ati 7870cf +gf8800. The old rule for ati\amd drivers was: when new gpus come out wait for one year for drivers to come out and then buy it. Wasn't the case for 7990 dual gpu board, cause after a year people started selling them for lack in realworld gaming performance. Synthetic benches scaled well (i was 7970 3way cf user back then), but gaming perf sucked. Later drivers got better, but it took faar too loong for amd to get there. People were dissapointed. And afcourse then amd quietly killed of its cf support through drivers, so for doom 2016 i bought a single gtx1060 3gb gpu, and i really haven't gone back to sli or cf since then. |

Posted 30 May 2019 by sir sant Post: Was looking at some hosts with a radeon VII, and the results are not that impressive: https://boincstats.com/en/stats/61/host/detail/801752 https://boincstats.com/en/stats/61/host/detail/805181 Results are not disappointing by any means, but i was expecting a little more, like 4 times the amd 7970 performance. Right now It looks like ~2,5 times 7970 performance. For right now running two amd 7970 would get me into top 20 (looking at hosts only). That would be 500w per hour vs Radeon VII 300w per hour, and afcourse theres the the gpu price difference. |

Posted 8 Feb 2019 by sir sant Post: Well, if it's fp64 ratio is 1\4 then it's like 7970 all over again, and that was a brutal card back then with it's 1 TF of fp64. (Fp64 for 7970 was set at 1\4 ratio). |

Hi, how to setup a backup project for milkyway?
(Message 46872)
Posted 31 Mar 2011 by sir sant Post: You set the share setting to 0 on the project that you want as a backup. Thanks for the info man, but i just upgraded my ati\nvidia rig, and there's no room for the 4870 in there anymore, it's nvidia rig only for now. And since my main ati\nvidia rig's ati card's are 6870 and they dont support dp, i wont be able tu run MW for now. |

Try'd this: added collatz and set share to 0%, well it didnt work, collatz started to run has a primary project and milkyway (share 100%) was waiting to run... Help please. Also maybe set dnetz as a backup project? |
