Hello all,

I know that cncguru has 4x6970 running. The reason for such thread is to gather people both running and planning to buy such system.

I currently have 3x6970 with one slot gap between each, 25C ambient temp, at %100 fan speed.

The max temp on the hottest VRM is 72C and it is way hotter than the way 5870 works on 3 Way with slot gap between each.

I also couldn't find a proper review where 4x6970 is analyzed.

So my question is that is such temperature is normal and would it be possible to shift to 4x6970 where temps are kept below 80C using reference card under the 25C ambient temp?

Happy crunching.

The apps used to repair the broken links may be a little out-of-date. I will put up the fixes for non-US keyboards in the next week or so by recompiling the new source.

Hello Blurf, nice to see you back.

I have some of the wus from december and january too. Here they are, on the last page:

Crunching 24/7 already stresses hell out of the card. I recommend 85C at max just to have a tolerance interval. Although the card throttles at 120C, I consider going above 95C as slightly dangerous.

There have been a number of different issues with the server in recent times. RPI labstaff recently has been understaffed and having troubles keeping the RPI CS account servers up. A while ago there were also some disk failures, and there's some kind of database cleaning going on.

Thank you for the clarification. I was actually asking the times prior to these, because afaik, the server going down has been frequent prior to more than 5 months ago.
The reason for 5 months is that i have been here prior but the shortages happen so frequent, i can't exactly remember when they began to happen this often.

Understaffing= I can understand that.

Disk Failure= Restoring database takes time but if a HDD fails 3 times in a day and causes these? It is hardware but it shouldn't be surprising you such failures might happen. So I believe you have begun to see such frequent failures as part of project and live with it because backup projects via 0% share exists. When i first joined the project, the server outage was happening rarely. But if every HDD you replace cause these issues, than it's a very bad luck...

The reason for such tread is that Milkyway@Home has become an unreliable project due to too often server issues.
I did try to hold but my rigs has become useless with no wus available and I shifted to Collatz Conjecture where wu distribution has been almost flawless.

I'm asking the project admins to state a more detailed explanation of the server issues other than the cache bypass, because it is obvious there are other things causing problem.

It is a crunchers responsibility to not break the rules, but it is also the project's responsibility to provide an environment to crunch.

I hope we can figure out what needs to be done. I will be checking the thread frequently. If someone wants to pm me, i will be at collatz.

Hope you guys can crunch happily...

The page shows 0 wus waiting for validation but in my account, i have in total of 25 pending credit waiting to be granted. There are even wus from 6 december.
25/0.06*220=91666. Not that much but still if the server is adjusted to validate immediately, why these wus?

Here is my machine with pending long wus (3x6970). I haven't observed a change in GPU load but CPU usage may increase as the timing is higher than previous short wus. Although it might just be due to the increase in size?

Anyways, i do like this idea as it will increase the utilization of GPU and decrease the load on servers.

Thank you for that team:)

Couple of months ago, an outage was considered to be an exception which was happening maximum 2 times in a month. Nowadays, crunchers accept the outage, which happens at least 2 times per week, as a part of the project.

I did say this, and will be saying that, we need better servers. If crunchers allocate their resources to buy hardware for the science, the project staff is obligated to provide a service that meets the crunchers behavior.

The existence of backup projects doesn't soften the excuse of sequential outages. I don't know whether the cause is server load, validation or feeder but apparently something is wrong in the server side.

Still, milkyway@home is my primary project but when the opencl becomes an industry platform, which has been becoming really fast, i wonder how many people will stick to this project. At least the Prime Grid did a wonderful job implementing it into their application.

It will be sent to another cruncher by server. If it is close to deadline, boinc will get it to higher priority.

Further details, if you let the power tune at 0, you can reduce the memory clock to 800, if you raise it to +%20, you can lower it to 850 (using MSI Beta 5). It will save you hell of heat.
I think i might make a mistake. I used GPU-Z 0.50 and those temps belonged to GPU temp #3. I guess it is the VRM? Maybe i'm wrong.
