Milkyway didn't harm your Fan, you harmed your Fan running Milkyway 24/7 if that's what your running it ... If I remember correctly my 48xx Cards showed a RPM, I know earlier ATI Cards I had showed an RPM & my 58xx Cards show some RPM so I don't see why the 48xx Series of Cards wouldn't. He can't just look & see if the Fan is turning or stick his finger on the center of the Fan to feel if it's turning, I do that all the time.

With the Temp's at 100*c I would say the card is no good, my Box's will Reboot if the Video Card Temp reaches around 100*c ...

Well thats serius, because actually I was looking around before I started crouch to milky way, and the staff says they didnt heard ever that any boinc project caused damage to the hardware. Well I still think that my fan should not give away so soon, I've joined on feb 10, and others running more hardly without problems. Anyway, I only remember 1 week contunus crounching, other times I suspended the project time by time.

My fan is runnin, I already checked it, even turning into higher speed when got some load, the real problem is, its not running its full speed, and I can even hear it, because it was the louder piece in my comp anyway, for some reason its lost the full capacity. But according to your posts, even 83-93 C wasnt normal.

Hi,
i checked it right now on my main system.
My 4850 shows no fan rpm, my 5830 does. For referenz: Temps 63 .. 66deg, fan 1654 rpm @ 41% , gpu-load 97%.

What kinda card is yours ? Asus ?

Hello !

This weekend one day from an other my graphics card become extremly quiet. First I didnt cared about it, my room is cooler than usually because of bad weather. Generally its 25-27 C in my room and my gpu operating on 90-93 C. Now its 20 C what is cold, cause summer is there, so first I tought this causing my fan to slow. But when I entered ati catalist I've seen my gpu now operating 107 C and the fan cannot go any faster. Is it possible that milkyway damaged my graphics card ? Ati says my fan going on 98% but it seems not true because full speed must be much louder. I dont think that dust or anything can be decrese the speed of the fan so dramaticly.

I suspended the project for awhile, till I can figure out what causing this problem. I also reinstalled al sowftware including windows, so its some hardware problem. If you have any ideas please tell me.

Try to use ati overdrive to lower the memory clock. My 4890 runs 90-93 C with stock settings, but when I set my gpu to 900mhz and my memory clock to minimum its running on 80-84 C . Of course when I want to use my computer to something else, I just simply disable the ati overdrive.

When is this new application MW3 come into production, so that i can use my fermi-cards for crunching?

Hope to hear soon!

Yea I wonder if the new milkyway app is working now, or we need an other newer version ? And when ati users getting their application?

Something still doesn't seem to be working correctly on the validator. Here's 5 new WUs in which in each case a 58xx card running v.23 and another 58xx running .20b validated against each other and invalidated good v.23 results from 48xx cards:

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=90934041
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=90924553
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=90902501
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=90873943
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=90757381

As I understand it this should not be happening. Interesting coincidences that both 58xx machines have 4 GPUs and are from the same team & sub-team...

Is the validator still broken or? Both of these 4 x 58xx machines running v.23 are putting out a massive number of invalid results. The above are just a few examples.

Here's the 2 machines:

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=123623&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=39218&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4

I have random invalid wus, I suspect some driver problems. Try to update the ati driver to the newest. I'll do the same.

Good day,

The new stock application v. 0.23 for ATI GPU has downloaded automatically and is running on my GPU, with several dozens of WU's already finished. Some of those have been validated OK, but some were either considered invalid, or the validation is reported "inconclusive". Thus I guess the problem is still there.

Not overclocking.

Cheers, ivk

Same here and I think it appers on all ati cards 58xx and 48xx. Is this normal with the new validator or will it be ever fixed ?

I've read that 48xx GPU is the one correctly validating against the stock application.

But I have problems with my 4890 ati card some wus returning as validation validation inconclusive.

So I'll try to run the 0.23 today.

You can turn off your cpu at your account / MilkyWay@home preferences , from the home page.

The current version is really driving over the gpu, I didnt seen a smooth fix to this problem yet. But once, boinc turned off my gpu after my cpu went above 25%. Yes it sounds strange but it worked for me. But this option showed upp for me in boinc only 1 time. Then I got my boinc reinstalled, never seen this option again. (lol)

I get around 5000+ credit to my rac, and cant really say when it will stop. Its hard to calculate with rac without knowing the exact algorithm. Rac supposed to show your computing power but sometimes it could get really unrealistic. Such as if the algorithm contains d = day so it could be slow after you miss some days of crounching. But I'm not really sure about this.

What I can say if you stay crounching 24/7 it will go upp fast, and stay high. ATI cards really doing good in this project.

Now its picks upp a little speed because some wu-s take 12-17 minutes on your card.
