true, or twist tie wire same gauge as for the bread loafs without the paper coating(worked well) |

Thanks for that explanation. And I will compare those keeping in mind the results you found. I do that with the wires running everywhere too, I don't have any passive cooling stuff but still zip tie all the wires to a part of the case so they don't get in the way of any airflow. Since my pc's are in their own room I also leave the case sides off too, that means better airflow too. |

(The HD4800 series card supports OpenCL version 1.0. I think Milky Way requires version 1.1******* Nope. I have several hosts with HD4850 GPUs (OpenCL 1.0) that have been crunching continuously here for a long time without problems. Here is one that joined up back in May 2009.) true, but I could not get it to work(get a computation error) with windows 10, tried downloading the old driver too(13.4 cat. and would not work). windows 7, yes no issues |

of course the only metal on metal in the box for me would be on the heat sink or when I use the screwdriver on the screw for the graphics card. I like zip ties |

So my laptop with the 7490m should be capable of running Milkyway? The 7490m and Quadro FX 3700m only successfully ran Collatz, Moo!, Primegrid (PPS on 3700m, 7490m running GNFR 20 for 7 days) and SETI 8 last winter. I halted upgrading both those GPU's drivers because newer drivers caused something to break (Idle Champs of Forgotten Realms on 3700m) I'll try the latest Catalyst on the 7490m and see if some Milkyway WU's start up. (Looks like AMD freezes it at either 15.7.1 WHQL 7/29/2015 or Crimson beta Edition 16.2.1 3/1/2016, it's currently on Catalyst 14.9) |

I have an old computer (10+ yrs) with an ASUS Nvidia GT220 Graphics Card. Recently it has stopped doing any work, though I do have ~1.6M work credits for MilkyWay@home. After reading most of the posts in Updated GPU Requirements I can't help but wonder if my GPU has been dropped from the list of accepted GPUs. I do use it for Einstein and SETI projects and they still do work just fine. Should I write this off as "fun while it lasted"? George |

Correction: It's a Radeon HD 7450m w/ OpenCL 1.2 capability and 1GB RAM. Milkyway won't send GPU WU's to it. So just being capable of OpenCL 1.2 isn't enough. What's the other criteria? |

Will AMD Radeon Vega 8 work? |

Will AMD Radeon Vega 8 work? Probably not as it's not a dedicated gpu but one built into the cpu, some Intel ones will work but it says they have no tasks for them. |

The AMD Radeon VII should work fine for MilkyWay GPU-Tasks with it´s high DP crunching power, but it´s not shown in the "Statistics" for GPU-models (neither Windows/Linux/Mac). Why? It "should" be better than the Tahiti-Chip or do you have other informations/details? |

Nice one :). The AMD Radeon VII should work fine for MilkyWay GPU-Tasks with it´s high DP crunching power, but it´s not shown in the "Statistics" for GPU-models (neither Windows/Linux/Mac). Why? It has a more powerful DP than Tahiti, even the HD 7990! https://www.anandtech.com/show/13923/the-amd-radeon-vii-review/3 [edit] Lol, didn't realise your post was 1yr old! Is there a reason why no one has created an app for Intel graphics. Seems like there are a lot of them out there to take advantage of. |

My laptop has 2 7970m but it only uses 1 of them. Do you have a cc_config.xml file to tell it to use both? |

Mickey, I not understand. once you say you want to use both GPU and once you speak about overheat !!! Milky use about one core from your CPU. So it can not produce overheat. If you run at same time other CPU project, it is logical that overheat comes. By the way, you not crunch on Milky already 5 days. Are you sure your question is on the right place ? You speak about laptop. Is it your i7-3612QM under Win10 , IntelGraphic HD4000, who was the latest seen on 30 april !? All seem to be unclear ! Best regards. Mickey, First Mickey is a mouse and I certainly do no look like a mouse, Mikey is a nickname I got when I started working and the cereal commercials came out with the 'Mikey likes it'. I have shut down my gpu's because it's over 80F outside and it's getting expensive to keep the computers cool with them running, ie my wife complains less. I will bring them back up often enough to keep posting though, but I still have 168 workunits sitting as inconclusive and a RAC of nearly 500K. Another thing I have an Intel I7 with 4/8 cpu cores so running just one cpu core seems silly at best!! For me personally I do NOT use the Intel gpu to crunch workunits because of the heat it puts out. I do however run 6 cpu workunits at a time and do have a 4 fan laptop cooler running 24/7 forcing cool air up into the cooling vents of my laptop. Oh and last thing I did not start this thread like you I only responded to it. You take care and stay at home too. |

Mickey, Lol, you say mikey's post isn't clear, neither is yours :p. Btw running the GPU alone (along with 1 CPU core) can be enough to overheat the laptop, (from the GPU of course). Without specialist cooling, or a very well built laptop with good built in cooling anyway (if such a laptop exists).
