The "Peter Principle" is the idea that people get promoted to their highest level of inefficiency and then stagnate there, meaning they did SUCH a good job at their old job so let's promote them to this new job and hopefully they will do just as well which of course most don't. Someone who can push buttons really well doesn't automatically make then a good widget maker!!

I've seen something similar, people promoted to get them out of a job where they're doing harm through stupidity.

That's called something else but yes it's common as well, get them out of here before they make things worse than they already have!!

AHHH politics is a tricky subject when it comes to voters, being 'qualified' for the job rarely has anything to do with whether you are elected to it or not

Admins have nothing better to do than to warn everyone. They are the lowest form of life. But at least you worked out how to block someone instead of crying to the nearest admin like a pathetic little girl.

I've done that at Projects where people think they know how to run it better than the Admins and keep trying to explain how they would do it 'if it were their project', at some point you just have to understand it's not YOUR decision and accept it or move on to another project.

Server status page shows all is down except up/download server + scheduler.

Thank you for the update. My office was getting cooler, so I knew my PC's had run out of work :-). Was trying to break a personal RAC record of 600k today. Too bad. Good luck and glad about the mirrored drive!

I think it died overnight 28th/29th July. I cant upload results either. Hopefully admin will fix soon.

well all my systems are still saying Communication deferred. I am out of WUs now too.

Got WUs on both my PCs.

yeah I have gotten a couple of WU on 2 of my systems. It's pretty inconsistent though. I guess they're still having a communication problems between the work buffer and the WU distribution system.

my daughter is going to start working on her MS in software engineering this coming spring. Maybe I'll see if she is interesting in working on the BOINC server code as a project.
