I will see if my just ordered video card will work on GPU, I ordered a 4830-512MB from Newegg.

The 4830 should work, someone on my team is using one.

Haha yes, its actually completely ready and I think Travis has the apps up.

Could you ask him to post the code for it as promised two weeks ago and again in the news of April 8th, please?

Would be nice if the ATI card owners (doing the mojarity of work in the moment) would be able to put their cards to some use with the new project too.

I would still prefer to have all output from this project, whether CPU or GPU, under the one roof.
I don't believe that making a new project for it is needed.

Just make it a different build like the different applications for 'stock' Windows, 'stock' Linux, 'optimised' Windows' and 'optimised' Linux (and whatever other ones there is).

It could be downloaded by the ones that want to run it and all stats will then be available from the one site and database.

I have an ATI 4870 (that after two weeks hasn't been doing much, just can't get any work at all), and any output it does I would like added to the computer that it is part of, to go with it's combined cpu and gpu outputs that have been done already.

At any rate the volunteers that have made considerable output contributions via their GPU cards would not be able to have their totals split up to show CPU and GPU outputs.
Therefore any new figures would not be a true indications of what has been produced by the graphic cards on this project.

I much prefer to keep it all under the one project banner and not split across two projects.

Thanks for your time.

(Remember to keep smiling as it makes others wonder what you have been up to.)

I would like for it all to be under one roof as well. SETI has managed to do it.I don't really see why it isn't possible here.

It would have been possible maybe to run a WCG style, and have an opt-in on the longer WUs. Though the way you suggest, they would not be able to distinguish who wants the longer WUs, and whom are using CPUs.

But as you said, the downside is the seperate stats each project will have, even if they are both under the MilkyWay banner.

Unless a cronjob is set up to read both stat outputs and combine them so that the statistic websites can grab that instead.

CPDN does it. In my profile there are a number of tick boxes - Are you willing to do these types of WUs? [ticking no boxes means that you are willing to do any, whatever's in the work queue. If you tick some boxes you may occasionally get 'no work available' messages, if there are no WUs of the type you want available].
a. Will run on any P4 and up with 256MB RAM. Takes around 200 hours.
b. Must have at least 1.5GB RAM or it won't d/l any of these WUs.
c. Takes 2,500-ish hours on my nehalem o/c'd to 3.4GHz.
etc, etc.

But CPDN is simpler in that it is CPU-only.
Cheers,

PeterV

CPDN has also been essentially offline for the past several days -- serious hardware issue they are working on at the moment.

There has not been much work recently, but we are expecting a higher availability of work any time now.

"got 0 new tasks"

hello laurent, I am sorry to say that is how it is for most of us on MilkyWay for much of the time right now. But the project is being re-organized and very soon there should be more work for everyone. There is a new MilkyWay GPU/CUDA project starting up any time (see the MW home page).

The work will come, keep standing by ;)

Looks like it is getting close, the page shows up now with "REPLACE WITH PROJECT NAME".

I'm assuming this has something to do with the change, even though server status shows exactly 1000 WU's available.

thats the generic page setup from boinc page generator. a little ways to go but by the end of next week(or sooner) it should be going.... just depends on how easy or hard some of the stuff(coding, etc) likes to fight people. and people say machines don't have minds.. but they do.

I talk nice to my baby's and they treat me nice as long as i listen to them... pc's are like women... they just don't talk IRL.
