Description | Members of the Eastbay Astronomical Society (EAS) are persons interested in astronomy and the related sciences. Founded in 1924, the organization of EAS is in partnership with the Chabot Space and Science Center (CSSC) located in Oakland, California. Several dedicated EAS members staff the telescopes at CSSC, provide expertise and volunteer support for the Center and its science exhibits, participate in outreach programs, and educate students and visitors in the field of astronomy.
EAS conducts monthly meetings featuring presentations on a variety of topics by distinguished speakers. EAS administers a "Loaner Scope Program" for members, and also manages a weekly "Telescope Makers Workshop" at CSSC. At a special annual awards dinner and ceremony each spring, deserving recipients are recognized and awarded for their outstanding contributions to EAS, CSSC, and/or the field of astronomy.
EAS is an organizational member of the Astronomical League, the Western Amateur Astronomers (WAA), and the NASA/JPL "Night Sky Network".
